In hand showing....

Deciding if i should take my yearling to a local show, inhand under 3 years. He will lead at walk but not at trot..... should i leave it until next year or should i take him just for the experience and not worry about it..... what would you do?!

Teach him to trot in hand! It's not that difficult and five mins practice every day will crack it in no time.

can i recommend a sports bra for teaching to trot in hand... i've never known 'bounce' like it...

I am trying but he's a stubborn little thing. Don't want to rush him or do too much too soon. Just wondered if people generally left their babies to be babies or if they got they out and about that young!!?

Go for it!! The experience will be great and you might find he finds an extra gear with all the excitement!!

Nope, mine all go out it's a good education.

If he doesn't go to trot forward carry a schooling whip for a little 'encouragement' and ensure that you praise him when he does trot.

He will more likely trot in hand at a show as its all very exciting

And if you follow other horses he is more likely to want to trot

you could always just take him for a walk around the showground for experience if you get there and you feel he isn't ready to go in the class.
my boy wouldn't trot up for me but after practice he does it lovely

My daughters 3yr old was so silly at 1st show, i told her if she dosnt think she can hold her in trot just let her jog a bit and walk.
Judge understands they are babies, they didnt seem to mind my girl walking most of the trot bit (prob just glad pony had stopped rearing lol).
Its a local show so go for it

Go for it. Ten days before our local show my husband decided we would take our two year old, she'd never been out of the field before... He practised walk and trot in hand most days leading to the show, and on the day the trot up was the best thing she did - straight and ears pricked! Shame the rest of the time she was firey enough for two people to think she was a colt!
