I'm thinking about doing a few shows this summer with my Fell pony. I would do a couple of ridden classes but i want to give inhand a shot, propably mountain and moorland classes. now i was wondering what i would need? since i would also be doing ridden classes i was wondering if i could just show him in his normal bridle, as i dont want to have to buy an inhand bridle and have to take two, but if it is essential to have an inhand bridle i will get one ( he just has a snaffle so could i also do inhand with this?) . also could i just do it in my show things (black show jacket, long black boots, cream jods, white shirt and tie/stock) also could i just use my show whip too?

He has all the feathers and longish main and very long tail so he should fit in all right in classes.

sorry for all the questions!

:)

Your normal briddle will be fine for in-hand or if you wanted to keep it clean for your ridden class try a white rope halter - I prefer this for natives. Clothing as you say is ok but dont forget to top it off with a hat. i use fawn trousers & a tweed coat with shirt & tie (cant run in long boots) and an old velvet riding hat (no chin strap). show cane too is useful but not essential. Good luck & enjoy yourselves.

Never show a M+M in a black jacket. Big showing faux pas :o Tweed jacket and tie not stock is correct for M+Ms. Also it is correct to wear trousers for in hand showing, as you are showing a fell you would need light coloured trousers :)

You can show in-hand in exactly the same attire as you do ridden (minus saddle of course ;) )

I agree with carlosmum - i love the white halters on natives - but be sure he is controllable in it though. In hand should be judged 50% on manners so he needs to look controlled.

Enjoy :)

Edited to say: show jacket would be tweed ;)

Yep you can show in-hand with a normal snaffle bridle so you wont need two! For M&M ridden and in-hand classes it is correct to wear a tweed jacket not a black or navy with a shirt and tie.

For in-hand with my Fell I wear cream trousers (chinos / jeans style), black short boots, a cream / white shirt, red tie and a blue and green large checked waistcoat, brown gloves, blue velvet riding hat with a flesh coloured strap, hair in a bun, show cane. I only wore the waistcoat as I didn't have a tweed jacket and it was cheaper! My pony was only young so I didn't do ridden classes last year.

This year I've been getting an outfit ready for ridden classes. I've got a blue tweed jacket, pale yellow shirt, maroon tie with gold spot (primarks finest), pale yellow jods, short black boots and black leather gaiters (cheaper than long boots!), brown leater gloves, blue velvet riding hat with flesh coloured strap.

:)

ETA: agree with making sure you've got control if you decide to go for the white halter option - no way I'd want to take my lad in the ring without a bit!!
