In hand trot up problem

Occasionally when doing trot up in hand (either at home or at shows) my daughter's pony will leap forward a bit like a small rear. Not with any nastiness more like with excitement. At the moment when she does it we bring her back down to walk and then calmly ask her to trot on again. Is this right?

I understand that we need to work on this at home. Can anyone give me any tips to rectify this.

Btw we always lead with hat and gloves for safety sake.

Pony is rising 7 welsh x Arab mare.

Yep sounds sensible. My arab does similar on her endurance trot-ups. I just ignore it, bring back to walk and start again. No big deal so it doesn't become an issue.

I'd just carry on in trot. Exuberance and power going into the trot is never a bad thing IMO!
