In-hand work and riding excersises?

yeah as above maybe try join up bit of fun and could just practise manners like where to walk with respect you and stopping and starting just keeping it fun is the most important! x

With Missy - Leading round, halting, going over and through obstacles... that kinda thing, but not walking out because she's only been here a week tommorow

Riding - Your average lot for a 12yo girl I guess - walk, trot, canter, extension and collection, lateral work (leg yielding, flexion, shoulder-ins etc), jumping (spreads, uprights, corners... but not too big, I'm no show jumper and the ground's a bit hard at the mo to go too high and the mare I ride is getting on a bit, though you'd never know), got some 2002 dressage tests...

Why not hobble break her? Have a look on Youtube for "Hobble Breaking" by P D Jones. It's a really worthwhile thing to do, and could save your horse from serious injury one day :)

Do you have access to a trailer? You could always practise going on and off that. Clippers? Or even an electric toothbrush, or some kind of back massager to get her used to vibrations.

Putting a roller on to get her used to being girthed and maybe even bitting her (provided she's been checked for wolf teeth etc.) are definitely good things to do too.

If your 2yo is quiet and you have help you could introduce the idea of long reigning to her. Not endless circles but straight lines off her headcollar.

Obvioulsy you wouldn't want to do lots and lots but 10 mins usually occupies their brains pretty well.

I'll take a look...
The trailer's full of jump wings and fillers, but she loaded so well last week... I really want to empty it...
Clippers... none down there, I'll try the toothbrush! Good idea!
Roller-wise, we're looking for one now. We have one but it doesn't fit XD
Bitting: the dentist is coming in 2 weeks, so maybe after that. Thanks!

Hmm... long reinging would be interesting, but she's still getting used to being lunged, so I'm guessing that would need to be sorted out first. Would you say there's a lower age minimum to start long reining?

You could explore some of the natural horsemanship ground exercises. Parelli's 7 games would be a good starting point.
