Yesterday was the very sad day that I had to say goodbye to my stunning little pony, Gem. She was only 3...she had a bright future ahead of her, she was perfect around kids, would stand for hours being brushed, and she loved cuddles...she was going to be a cracking kids fun pony to do a bit of everything on, but also excel in the show ring under saddle as she already had in-hand. She had a fantastic temperament...of course, she could be a bit mareish in the field at times, but she always respected me, and my mother. She had lymphoma. She went from this, stunning pony -

to this in only a matter of days. I've linked the picture because although it isn't majorly explicit some people may not want to see it.
The vet was adamant she had laminitis...being experienced with laminitics, we did our own research and found out about lymphoma. The vet gave her antibiotics, ran tests, and was out everyday for a few weeks, but it was doing nothing. We found a massive cancerous lump on her side which was when we decided enough was enough. We got a second opinion, who said yes lymphoma, and she was put to sleep. No more suffering. It was the best thing to do. I made sure I was there until the end, I couldn't of had it any other way - I had a close bond with her.
Here are some pictures of her.

A few days after she first arrived, being cheeky!

Her first show as a two year old, she won her class as you can see.

A more recent picture - her first time being sat on. She was impeccably behaved.

RIP Gem, taken too young, you will never be forgotten. Have fun pain free in horsey heaven and don't steal Zorro's food!

Thank you for reading.

So sad.
I've got a 3yr pony, and can't imagine what it is like to lose anything with such a future ahead of them.

Poor Gem, a little beauty. RIP girly, have fun up there.

I am so sorry for your loss ... i lost my 2 year old suddenly in July, it`s just not fair, not when they have a lifetime in front of them. You made the right call for your girl x

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, she was a beautiful girl. I had my mare, also called Gem put to sleep last week, it's a horrible thing to go through and my thoughts are with you xx

Oh i have tears. To lose any horse is hard but one so young is heartbreaking. What a pretty little thing she was and just sounds a peach. Please be kind to self you made a hard but right decision and no pony or horse could ask for more.
RIP little Gem. Forever young in your mums heart
xx x

My Foal

I’ll lend you for a little while, a foal of mine God said,
For you to love while he’s alive and mourn for when he’s dead.
It may be one or thirty years or maybe more than these
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He’ll bring his charm to gladden you and should his stay be brief,
You shall have his memories, as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down here, I want this foal to learn.
I’ve looked this wide world over, in my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labour vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call and take him back again?
Will you shelter him with tenderness and love him while you may,
And for the happiness you’ve know, forever grateful stay?
But should the angels call for him much sooner than you planned,
Brave the bitter grief that comes and please try to understand.

How awful for you, so sorry to hear of your sad loss. It is a real shame that she did not get more time with you and your family.
Run free and pain free over the rainbow bridge little pony.

She did look like a wonderful girl and very pretty.

(((hugs))) from Lancashire

That brought tears to my eyes, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss :frown3: She was a stunning little thing, and to lose such a lovely horse at such a young age must be absolutely devastating. She was obviously very much loved and had a lovely life with you - you did the kindest thing for her. Sending massive hugs your way, we're all here for you if you need to talk. xxx

So terribly sorry to read this Twiggy. what a beautiful little pony in looks and clearly in character. It is so unfair that you lost her so young. YOu obviously loved her and cared for her wonderfully. Hugs to you and run free, Gem x x

Thank you everyone, onemoretime, this is a lovely poem, thank you for sharing xxx
