In need of Help badly

Not all is lost ! Horses can adapt very well with the use of one eye. I know of horses that event with only one eye!

Please can you tell me when you had your horse vetted, was it done here in the uk or spain?

If your having problems hacking on the roads, i would advise to either avoid them when possible until he has built up more confidence with the use of one eye or to either hack with another horse on the side he is blind on.

These are only suggestions. I hope this helps

Thanks everyone thats made me feel Heaps better.

Ok i'm a novice rider in the saddle but not on the ground as for WHO told me to get a PRE I did. I have owned horses for a long time. Saying im a novice rider i've been riding for a long time. i can walk, trot, canter, gallop, jump. I will never say i'm more than a novice.

Trainers IMO are not worth their weight in gold i have seen way to many bad ones. I will never hirer a trainer.

However the comment that i shouldn't own a PRE because i'm a novice rider. Remeber you dont know someone's whole story. I know someone that is fantastic with horses but can't ride! Runs a Yard full of training TB's for racing. Riding and handling are 2 very different things. My family use to breed Gypsy Vanners. i've only been riding 7 years. and 2 of them i had to have off after 2 major operations.

Good luck then love :-)

You have had some good advise but i would like to add my bit:)
, if he really has no vision it my be better to have the eye removed before he injures himself. Twigs and grit in a eye that can't see can make nasty infections etc.

I dont agree sorry if the eye is not causing any problems for the horse why put him through surgery???

My mares blindness was gradual and she adapted to it.

she never walked into things..

The one thing to be wary of is other horse to him, coming on his blind side and if they try to kick he wont see it.

I would turn him out on his own or with a very quiet horse or donkey.

I too have known one eyed horses that you'd never have known..

I would think that the issue was more that he hadn't done any work for four months - so was hacking out in an unknown area with an unknown rider. Give it time, get some lessons, and take it slowly - I bet you will get there...

We have been taking it slow from the start becasue of other things that were not right! Wasn't planning on giving him 4 months off! lol

He is turne dout on his own with a horse either side of him. He has been turned out in a small heard as well and seemed fine. Sayign that he is a very dominant horse only having been gelded 2 years ago.

Doing parelli with him( i know some dont like parelli) I have not got him to where he respects me more adn will walk next to me etc rather than bardge through me. Still times he does, but not as often as he once did.

He wouldn't allow me to pick up his feet 4 months ago and now i can do all 4 in about 3 minutes!

So i know we are going forward. Thinking baout it all now it will explain how he went over a really small jump on one rein but refused to on the other while working on a line.

Thanks for all you help.

My one eyed horse is an excellent hack in company and he can't see the traffic so it must have been scary to begin with. It will just take time to get used to.
In the meantime NEVER hack out alone. It's dangerous for both of you and road users.
