My 22 year old TB had a lump come up on his back over the weekend. Right on his spine and sat on a vertebrae. It was really sore for him to the point he kicked out at me when I tried to look at it. In 5 years of owning him he has never once pulled a face or shown a nasty bone so I knew something wasn't right.
I called the vet out and she is concerned he has an abcess which is draining from his spinal column. However she is treating it with a good dose of Bute and antibiotics initially to see if that reduces it or has any effect.
My poor old boy is fit as a fiddle and still out most weekends doing 12 - 15 mile distance rides. I'm so worried its something sinister and he will have to be retired or worse still PTS. He is a stress head when he's not being worked regularly so retirement would be awful for him.
Hot chocolate and cookies for those that get this far, just needed to have a vent!!
