In or out in this heat?

Mine are out unless they look uncomfortable. Brought mine in today as they were struggling. Even plaited little legs mane because he was sweating underneath :(

Ours are in during the day, they practically flatten you in the morning in their hurry, mostly because of the flies. I left them out in the day until mid-June as the flies weren't so bad then, but they spent all day standing in the river.

Our stables are nearly as hot though, but at least no flies and they each have a fan rigged up in their stables which helps a lot. They come in around 8am and go out about 10pm with fly rugs on.

Mine come in for the morning, then the stables get so hot here (yard is a suntrap) that I have to put them out at midday as the stables are like the Black Hole of Calcutta, poor horses.

They have fly spray on them, both have their rugs, and Trad Lad has his muzzle smeared with anti-sun lotion :) They've got two trees to go under, so can take their pick, and we're high enough here to catch a bit of breeze, so much better for them to be out as that's the coolest place for them.

There's a part of me that would like to keep them in all day; but its way way too hot for them inside after midday :(

Out, my stable is airless and has a tin roof which is perfectly positioned to catch and trap the full heat of the afternoon sun :(

fortunately the field has excellent shelter with several trees with huge canopies and lots of high natural hedges as well as being on a hill so there is often a bit of a breeze too.

Can't decide which is better! Stable is ok for a while until the sun moves round but is dark and without the glare of the burning sum feild doesn't have any real shade, ponies out at night and in during day but the heat is set to rise today so I'm wondering what is best! Your votes please......

ours are out at night except for two we had to change round to winter routine due to expanding bellies and vets advice

I wish I'd had a video this afternoon, I turned my two horses out at 5pm on the drive while I mucked out, they are usually out all night and in by day. There is long, lush grass on the drive and they usually loves trimming it for me. Within two minutes they were both back, covered in horseflies, trying to get past the wheelbarrows and trotting round the yard until we moved the barrows and they rushed back inside.

Here in Australia our horses are out 24/7 in 40+ degree heat or not..... My horses have shade but still prefer to spend most of the day in the blazing sun. I just put a fly mask on and a light flag rug and they stay cool and comfortable. Summers are long, hot and dry..... No one stables in summer during the day.

Agree with above.People make me laugh in this country. They seem to forget that horses and dogs survive perfectly well in other hot and cold countries without rugs and constantly being brought in because of what they deem as extreme weather. Fly masks are good but and so is a cool stable in very hot weather but not essential by any means. Most people at the yard I am at are always at a quandrum about "is it too hot, too cold, too wet, ground too hard, ground too soft" Horses are not made of glass.

Ours have been coming in very early for breakfast, exercise and then back out - it's cooler under the tree and in the field shelters than in the yard, the sun seems to bounce off the concrete straight into the stables. I know its a cliche to be complaining about the weather but i can't wait for it to cool down.
