As I *may* have mentioned I'm getting a new ponio tomorrow:D:D:D

But I've always had this dilemma, ponio is at the present out in the day and in at night (weight control) so what would you do when you got pony home (At about 12 noon)

OR

OUT?

Which would settle him best?

I would perhaps have him in the first day, see how he settles in the stable with a net to much on, spend some time playing with him, grooming him and getting to know him. Then turn him out on Sunday and let him get used to his surroundings.

Hope you have loads of fun with him!!!

I would have thought best to keep in for a day first as 4faults said, with a long groom and lots of cuddles and fuss and then turn out the day after. Having said that, when we got ours we turned him out straight away and left him to it!
 
He is wormed (I know cos he had the injectable one at his vetting - had a few mites and got my vet to inject him there and then (at owner's approval)) so that isn't an issue...

I kept mine in for the first day - I think it just helps them calm and get to know their surroundings and you also before getting to know the other horses and the way you like to look after them :)
 
I think most horses settle better in new surroundings if they can see other horses - they find it reassuring, so I would put him out. As you said he will need to be on his own for a few days, next to his proposed companions.

I'd stick to his current routine and put him out in the paddock. As you say he'll be on his own but will be able to see other horses. You must be very excited, congratulations!
 
IN. So he can get to recognise you,spend some time with him,and he can also get to know his stable.
If possible have another horse stabled for the day too,so that he can see his new "friend". He'll settle better that way.
