Its going to be 32 degrees here today. When its this hot do you bring your horses in or leave them out?

Ive left mine out with her fly hat on and tons of fly spray but now im really worried coz she has no shelter in her field to get away from the sun

.
The other alternative however is a wooden stable which gets like a baking oven in this weather so im not sure that would be any better! At least outside she may get some of the breeze

and I can bring her in this afternoon for a cold hose.

What are you doing?

Leaving out as Bella is out 24/7/365

BUT she does have trees on all four sides of her field so will have some shade all day. Having said that when I got there yesterday she was stood in full sun

I bring mine in in the day especially in the hot weather - if I don't she stands in the middle of the field looking miserable!

Izzy and Kenellen are out 24/7/365 too and they luckily have a field shelter and a huge tree with lots of shade in their field. They like the shelter, but it still gets quite hot in there!

If your stable is hot and airless, it would be kinder to leave her out I think. At least she can move about and take advantage of the breeze.

Out.

I lived in the USA for a year, and even in 38 degrees, our horses were out, and WORKING, in a shadeless environment. We were doing marathons in 104 degrees F at one stage...

Mine are out cos they have lovely shelter and a breeze. They have big bale haylage under their trees aswell.

ooo thanks ruscara I feel better now! Blimey lakeside that sounds crazy! Mind you we're not very well equipped for extremes of weather here in the UK

In during the day from about 7am to 3.30pm, as they go out at night in the summer.

They seem fine with it - their current field doesn't have that much shade, so better to be in during the hottest part of the day.

Mine is out with her fly rug on - fortunately she adores the heat. She will stuff her face with grass until she feels like a snooze and then crash out in the field.
In the winter she has had enough by lunchtime and if standing by the gate doesn't work, she gallops up and down until the boys get her in!

mine is in during the day as no shade what so ever and she just stamps her feet getting really cross also she likes to have a sleep mid day

Mines in - but then I have no choice as he is on 2 weeks box rest!!!! Luckily his stable is an old barn so is lovely and airy in this weather and gets a nice breeze coming through - although I think he would prefer to be out !

Both out with fly spray and the big ginger one has her fly rug on. Lots of shade in one of the fields and some in the other field. Barn is fairly cool but they prefer to be out.

Mine is in today to keep him out of the flies and the worst of the heat. Will spend the day snoozing happily and go out again this evening when it is cooler.

I'm the same as you! Mines out and there is not really any shade, tbh she doesn't seem to mind, when she came in yesterday I gave her a hose off which she seemed to enjoy

I wouldn't worry too much, you'd tell if she wasn't happy

Mine demand to come in in hot weather, mainly to get away from the flies. My boy will under no circumstances allow fly spray any where near him. My mare I do spray and they both wear flyangles.

I also strip graze so they do enjoy soaked hay midday. My wooden stables are behind a hedge so don't get too unbearably hot and I use a trailor tie accross their doors to allow more air through.

All three of mine are out, all in fly hats.
Two of them are in fly rugs, the other, who feels the heat more, is nude.
They do have a line of trees down one side of the field, so have shade, but don't seem to want to use it.

I should imagine that C's owner would have brought her in...she has a nice amount of shade under the trees but she gets *really* agitated with the flies

Speaking of which, what fly spray do you use? (another post maybe?!)

not as nice up here today pretty cloudy but MUGGYYYYYY.

mine are out 24/7 even yesterday when it was toasty toasty, plenty of fly spray and trees for shelter. they also have a stream in their field tht fatty likes to stand in to cool off
smile.gif
i prefer them to be out an be able to get a breeze and not cooped up cause our stable heat up pretty quick

Mine is out, hedges and trees on three sides of the field so he'll have shade if he wants it, and has plenty of fly spray on. My friend's mum will probably bring him in early afternoon and hose him down, which he will love....very pampered pony, very kind friend's mummy

Why on earth bring them in? I can never understand people in this country - its too cold, bring them in, its too hot, bring them in, its too wet, bring them in, its too windy, bring them in - when do they go out?! :P

Mine love nothing more than basking flat out in the sun, why would anyone want to chuck them in a dim stable all day?! Horses have to deal with FAR FAR hotter than our cruddy UK temperatures!

Merlins out.... He was on his own today so looked a bit peeved.... and even whinnied when he saw me

But brought him in for an hour and he was keen to go out again.

He has 10 acres of well hedged and full of trees field.... where was he standing.... in the baldpatch by the gate... asleep
