In? Out? Shake it all about?

My TB was not used to turn out at all when he arrived with me .
He's still out had a MW rug last night for the first time he looks fantasic ATM he's seven and finally looking grown up.
I would never consider keeping out a night all year that would not suit him.
I have however fantasic grass ATM he's on very liitle extra food he's pretty well living like a pony a very beauiful large pampered pony admittedly .
He's easy to feed its easy to regulate his wieght he would complete off grass no problem in summer if you wanted him too.
I will bring him in when he tells me he wants in .
 
My 20 yr old Arab is out in a rain sheet, and she lives on an exposed hillside high up in the Pennines! Her two companions are both miniature Shetlands built to survive the next Ice Age, but she seems happy enough bless her and the YO tells me they are always away up the field grazing when she looks at them. Although one of the Shetlands was seen trying to shelter underneath her when the rain was particularly heavy!
 
ours have been rugged up in LW full neck every day of the summer its not been boiling, obviously if its 20 deg and muggy they were in fly rugs, but have been in LW solidly for about 2 weeks now, and this weekend in MW and today its meant to pour all afternoon with a cold wind so they are in HW. I dont believe in shovelling feed down them and letting them shiver it off, i dont make them sweat but i keep them warm enough not to have to use feed to keep warm, i want it to add condition and energy!

Lst year Fig wasnt clipped (but grew zero coat anyway) and CS was full clipped and then wore an under rug, 2 x HW and a snuggy hood head.
 
Out, though I did seriously question the logic of it whilst traipsing round a pitch black field at 4.30am this morning trying to find my horse to get her in & cleaned up for hunting; stabled overnight would have been much easier! Mine are rugged in 40g overnight and plenty warm enough at the mo and all good doers, but will go into their 100gs if it gets any colder.
 
Still debating!!! really want him out till October but as he is 17 and no shelter in field I am thinking clip him and bring in but seems so early :-( plus i wanted him out longer for his breathing.... decisions decisions !!! At the mo he is out in a mediumweight.
 
Horses vary so much in their tolerances ATM all mine are good doers they are all working and needing no food .
The slimmest the cob has started getting some haylage while in.
I am going to try him clipped rugged and out this winter if it does not work I will bring him in.
Our grass is amazing this year, so I might as well make the most of the 'free' food while I can and they are having a lovely time I have just finished working everyone so they go out its a breezy but beauiful day no flys now they might as well enjoy it while they can.
 
Out, in a LW-MW no neck rug atm (although my mum may have taken it off during today as its warmed up since I did them this morning) But he's in a smaller restricted paddock with no access to a field shelter (although plenty of good hedgeline available. With him being in recovery from injury still I'm trying to keep him as happy as possible, and I think if kept warmer they don't get as silly as when the wind gets in their tails. If it wasn't windy I wouldn't be bothered, but the wind has a bite to it now. Ours will be in in about another month ish I think.
 
My 5 are all out naked, but they do live out 24/7 and have done for a few years now so are used to it, they just grow yeti like fur! If my Friesian gets ridden more than just hacking over the winter, then I may need to clip and rug accordingly. x

Think they all spent a solid month out in fly rugs and net rugs in the stable over summer. Otherwise just a simple cotton sheet.

Past couple of weeks they've moved up to fleeces (no neck for Fig), LW's (no neck for Fig) and now in MW (again, no neck for Fig).

When it's really baltic I clip a neck cover onto whatever rug is on top, but that is reserved for minus temps only as he doesn't need it otherwise and all they do is rub their manes and neck.
