I'm a middle aged person and have spent my life thus far only buying privately, that is until the other week when I went to Brightwells Welsh Cob sales at Builth Wells. It was a real eye opener. Hundreds of very good horses, part breds and welsh sec c and D mostly. I bought two weanlings. They are well grown, will lead, tie up and be groomed, and are eating corn. Full marks to the owners for producing them well.I am thrilled with them.
I know there are sales which are not so good but I just wanted to complement Brightwells on "doing it right" and the farmers and breeders who sell their excellent stock there. As a buyer it is just fantastic to be able to view many to decide which to bid on.
I find it preferable to spending weekend after weekend trailing up and down the country to view individuals, many of which turn out to be not quite as advertised ( but thats another story).
I have bought and sold many over the years and I have to say that neither a private buy or sale guarantees a good home even if you think you have bought and sold right, so, no more auction bashing from me, I find it an excellent place to buy and know of many which have found very good homes being sold that way too.
What do others think about this?
