I see so many posts on here where people moan about their livery yards/YO's/YM's, and where people move yards left right and centre and are never satisfied, and as a YO of many many years' standing myself, I do wonder whether people ever stop to think how they themselves rate as livery clients

Trust me, I've seen it all over the years

I've had lovely liveries who have been with me for 10 years +, and others who have been, er, more short term - I think the record was a couple of years ago when I asked someone to leave after 48 hours

Personally I think the key to a happy YO/client relationship is communication.

So in praise of one of my lovely liveries:

She is always cheerful and practical and accepts that with horses there are often more downs than ups, and that sometimes things are NOBODY'S fault.

If I am on the yard she is pleasant and chatty. If I am not on the yard she doesn't come knocking at the door looking for me when I am in the bath/on the phone/feeding my kids. If she needs something she will text or ring later on.

She always tells me her plans - her horse is on full livery including exercise if she can't ride, so I need to know if and when she is coming up so I can feed/exercise the horse around the owner's needs.

She loves her horse and spends a lot of time with her, not just riding.

She PAYS on time - by direct debit - so I never have to chase her up or worry if the money is coming in.

She is nice to my kids

She is really tidy.

I have never heard a bitchy word from her about anything or anyone.

I would like to clone her and share her with other YO's

I am pretty sure other YO's wouldn't complain!!!

I am not yet a client of a livery, but when i am........ I hope I will be something along those lines!

(if i do say so myself)

I hope your lady reads your thread

Most of my liveries are lovely too, with the exception of one, who IS lovely BUT doesn't even bother to knock, just comes in goes upstairs (upside down house) sticks her coffee in my microwave and uses the upstairs bathroom (the downstairs not grotty bathroom is always available for liveries and there is a kettle and microwave in the tackroom for them) Last weekend there were 8 of us sat down having lunch and she still did it! We were a bit

i would be locking the doors on these liveries who just stroll into the house!!!!! how rude - i think of myself as a good livery, i pay on time usually before i get my bill, help if they need it (diy / assisted diy type yard) 'knock the door!! lol if need anything when they in house - keep myself to myself dont bitch and generally get on with all. cant believe there are folks out there who just stroll on in your kitchen!!!!!!
