In praise of Section Ds!!!

This is Luna, who is 8
luna-5.jpg

I bred her myself and she is technically part-bred (mum is unregistered but definitely has welsh blood!)

She is fabulous to hack, brave, bold and not in the least fazed by BIG traffic. However she does know who is on her back and if she thinks she has the upper hand she will take it!!!

I have done all sorts with her, showing, distance rides, SJ and cross country. She has a lovely personality but is bolshy is handled incorrectly and is an evil genius when it comes to escaping!!! Lol

I love her to bits and only wish she was a hand bigger as at 14.2 I feel like a pony squished on her! (Top pic is my friend riding, the rest are me!)

Sorry for photo overload but as you can gather, I live this pony to bits :)

I love my mare, she was a RDA pony for most of her life, has a mild form of Narcolepsy (doesn't effect ridden work or handling) and has the funniest personality I have ever seen!

She is 25 now and still looks at the world as if its new to her lol. Every night she comes on the yard and spooks at the same things the senile old ****** lol!

Last season I jumped for the first time at a show in 26 years and we got two clears, she refused to do anything with my confident daughter who took her around once to show me I would be ok (after Hannah's round I tried to back out but I had a wonderful friend who like Hannah wanted to see me fulfil last years goal). After a lot of bribery from the ring judge and my entourage, I went in and Amber took me round clear...and when I say she took me round I mean it, the first time round I was so nervous I clung on for my life and gave no guidance whatsoever!

So I am a huge section D fan as they are way more intelligent than you'd imagine, some of them just like to pretend to be the opposite.....lol

Mine is 8 but only backed a year or so. She is from the Nanteglwys stud.

Sharp, loving, a bit ditzy. She is a bag of nerves when we set off for a hack and a bombproof plod on the way back.

Just started lessons with her to try and get some semblence of flatwork done. In the school she has the attention span of a gnat.

I love Teg xx

I have a 15 year old that I have had since he was 5 yrs old, he is jet black and a little devil! I love him to bits as he has such a huge character but he can be a naughty so and so too.
We just hack about these days but I have done pleasure rides on him in the past up to 30km.
He is equally the best and worst horse I have ever had and needs careful handling at times but he is also very loyal and makes me laugh lots and be happy.
He is currently a big hairy lump roughing it out in winter with a billy goats gruff beard and un-kempt mane!

My section D is very lazy and like a beach donkey. Doesn't move like a welsh at all, and is very plain looking. Sometimes I do wonder if he is all welsh, even though his passport says he is. He looks very out of place in showing classes as he is very carthorse like compared to the more proper welshes.

My girl is welsh D x Dutch warmblood and I love her to bits. She is quite sharp, spooky but very gentle and needs a rider that gives her confidence. Also you have to remind her every now and then who's in charge as she will quite happily take over.

Beautiful horse.

Mine and Vegas' relationship is a love/hate one. He only 4 yet bold as brass, nothing scares him yet he will spook at the slightest thing because "it might have been scary". He prances around a lot of the time and likes to act like a wild stallion yet is totally harmless and I personally feel 1000% safe on him in all situations. He's super intelligent and picks up things very quickly- he was 4th in his first dressage outing in a big class with more established horses. He irritates me 96% of the time for being a 1st class k.no.b yet as soon as i saddle up and he tries his hardest, I realise I couldn't have a better partner

He done amazingly well last year in hand including champion home produced winning an nps silver medal and standing 3rd in the Royal Welsh. This year im keeping everything crossed for a RIHS ticket and a placing at Royal Welsh again undersaddle

Your Welshie really looks like my mare with the exception he has a bit more bone.Mine is lovely, forward going and a bit strong in hand sometimes, but a wonderful nature. She always does well in showing and dressage, and when my daughter was smaller, she used to win lots of best rider classes on her.I love Welshies.Wish i could master the photo bucked thing, otherwise i would post some photo's.Where are the kids when you need them?

This is Rocky, half sec d with all the attitude!!!
I have had him since he was a yearling and he has just turned 4. He is a real character, no sooner have I stopped one annoying habit he had thought up another to replace it. He is as bold as brass, the type that will sit on a car to see if it bounces!!
I am looking forward to commencing his ridden work with equal measures of excitement and terror!!!

Somehow I've always ended up having Welshies and have had several over the years.

In chronological order:

Charlie
Completely bonkers. All he wanted to do was gallop flat out everywhere and jump everything. He was my first horse - we'd been looking for a safe pony club allrounder and ended up with a mad unschooled ex-driving cob who only knew how to trot really fast. He was perfect though and we went on to do very well in the local shows and dressage. He was bombproof too. I have far too many videos of us galloping flat out across a field, camera in one hand, reins in the other. The things you do when your young...

Henry (cheeky, he's a Welsh C)
Incredibly speedy (would out-gallop his owners 17hh eventers) with an amazing jump. He was scared of his own shadow and would jump out of his skin if another horse snorted.

Very spooky and marish but a brilliant ride. She'd only do it if she wanted to which was a pain. At shows you could barely get her round 2'3 but as you can see, when she decided she wanted to, she was super!

Cheeky (Welsh D x CB)
Stubborn and marish - a one owner pony - but totally safe and sensible. She escorted the PC endurance champion out on hacks and endurance rides and definitely was happiest with a bunch of little ponies cantering behind her. She had a long back and really struggled with her dressage so the below photos mean an awful lot to me. The last photo sums her up. She would try her little heart out. I was having issues breathing that day, so didnt warm up properly and yet she knew her job and 'helped' me round the test, finishing with her perfect square halt. Thats her 'mum I did it' face ;)

They all had enormous personalities and equally enormous jumps!

My welshie is a superstar..he can dressage with the big boys ..he loves to show off ..and very trainable ..a horse of a lifetime ..would change him for the world !!

I became the proud new owner of a Welsh D just a few days before Christmas. So far he is everything I dreamed of in a pony - he is quiet, gentle and very very sweet (and not spooky like my previous pony.......) I love him very much already!!!
