Firstly, I apologise in advance for any bad spelling/ poor grammar/ general delinquency... Thats just me  Sorry! Lolo will be un-banned on 19th May so no fear, this is only temporary :p

Not a good start for any report writing because it was erm.... awful! I’ve never had a good run at Isleham (ever!)… In fact, here’s a rundown of my bad luck;
• Pony refused to go over the little ditch, despite having never stopped at a ditch before. He then refused to leave the course.
• Same pony (this time at the area eventing:rolleyes:) parked himself on top of the big mound and refused to move. At all. Not even at a fence. And in full view of the lorry park. For 20 minutes.
• Different pony, fell off twice xc so the big E at my first ever BE event having been in the top 4 after the dressage and SJ.
• Fregs last year, got 50 dressage as he reared in every corners screaming SCARYYYY WHITE BOARDS, than had a mega wobble sj having nearly everything down so I retired.
• Area eventing last summer, E’d XC at the ditch to the skinny as at that point we had no button for 'jump ditch sensibly' or 'jump skinny fence without falling on face'
Those are the only times we’ve been as well… But we need a run and the ground there is ok so we set off… :D

I had to plait because Lolo is revising and refused to come all the way back to Norfolk to plait for me. Not impressed! Took me quite a long time despite he numerous reasurances that 'his mane practically plaits itself', thanks for that Lolo :p

Stressage was a bit meh. It was the open test, and we havent had any stressage input since Burnham because we arent allowed to trot on a single field locally because of the cr*p ground and Nini is at Pigs looking after her big boys! He curled up and dropped completely behind my leg after the free walk and intsead of being brave and shaking him forwards again I sat like a plumb and made it as obvious as possible that we were going no where by nagging him... sack the jockey :( Was pleased with 40, very generous! Thank you, kind PC marking

SJ… Well. Oh dear. Warming up he popped really sweetly over the cross so I came to the upright as it was, up to height, which was stupid because I know how fragile his confidence is sj. We duly went straight through it on a completely duff stride  Determined it was a minor blip (!) we jollyed over the cross pole a few more times and the parallel and went in thinking he'd be okay. I was wrong! Jumped 1 the rustic fine, then were wrong to the upright at 2 so surpise, had that down. He really didnt enjoy the going in there, I think perhaps the peaty soil makes the sensitive souls think they're jumping off false ground? No idea  I had the canter I wanted and he felt like he was gaining in confidence only to suddenly grind to a halt at fence 5. Came again and popped it sweetly but I think by now the wheels were well and truley wobbling off and he stopped at the second part of the double, then on coming again said no thanks to the double all together. So we were eliminated... He very rarely stops so I'm left thinking what have I done to my poor genuine pony?! :( Hoping its just our lack of prep and I think we both need to go out and SJ regularly so keep our confidence up in each other as we've had all the usuals checked recently. Heres the sj for anyone interested

Onto the XC where they kindly let us run. Had a really stupid stop at the big log before the water; as you can see on the vid (very kindly taken by the lovely Dafthoss!) I blithered along on the wrong leg around the corner, failed to set up sufficiently and come to sliding stop... Again sack the jockey :( He was really good through all our usual nemeses- the rolltop-ditch-skinny, the corner, all the stuff that could have been an issue previously he went really well through! We actually trust each other xc now (to an extent :p) and he feels pretty classy (most of the time :p)

All in all a bit of a meh day! Sorry for the huge report  Left over rocky road to any one who fancies it, without any of our usual support team theres more than enough to go round! And it has nuts in, super healthy ;) Thanks for reading! Al :)

Poor you :( I love reggie, you always ride him so sympathetically and from Lolo's reports you seem to be doing a great job with him, don't beat yourself up :)

Once it's gone a little bit wrong it can be hard to get it back together again, and I'm sure it couldn't help you remembering everything that's gone wrong there in the past!

He looks lovely xc :)

Perhaps the place is just bad mojo for you? Seriously, I used to have a place like that - it wasn't like awful stuff happened - bizarre dressage marks, weird stops at things horses had never stopped at before etc. - I just never seemed to be able to get it together there.

Awe go reg any way. Having watched you sj I dont think there was any thing you could have done that diffrently for him and I completly didnt see the stop at the log on the camera hence waiting for you to come out the other side and then worrying you had come off in the water.

Super report Al (Lolo is now downgraded from Team Reg chief reporter to 2nd in command) and don't forget, there's all that stuff about you need the bad days so the good days seem even better - or something like that. The Freg is lush too, so there :)

Well he's gorgeous..and classy!
So, you have a bit of a thing about Isleham...and maybe he picked up on that. He just looked a bit 'green' in both jumping phases, to me. Which is unusual for you both. I would try not to worry about it too much.
Have a good think about what may have had an input into the problems you had and learn from them, but then... box it, bag it...and move on.
You two have come on so much...a blip happens. Not to worry.

Good luck at your next event.. you have had the bad run now, put all this lovely, valuable lesson and experience in your tool box, and go have a brill time, next time around. :)

Firstly, I'll take your rocky road thanks! I feel your pain re: plaiting - I'm absolutely useless, yet PS can thread a whole set in 15 minutes

Sounds like Isleham has a bit of bad karma for you?? I think most people have a place like that - I know I do!!

Wouldn't worry about it, as I said it happens to most, and you and Reg have come on so much as a partnership it's only fair on the rest of us that you have a less than perfect day occasionally ;) :p

What a shame :(! I think you'd better avoid the venue from now on though ;) :p

I'm never going back, lol! Mum always manages to persuade me and then it always goes wrong. I

I love my pony too- I rode like a plumb but he was awesome :D Fingers crossed some more lessons from Nini will help us out a bit! He just wobbled and I lost him- his confidence just disappeared... Thank you :) He makes me look good!

I've told mum and Lolo I'm never going back! Ever :D I hate it there, never had a good run, even on a pony who'd been jumping DC round PC Opens!

Yellow Pony is cute- I'm jealous! Thank you for the video as well- she gave it to me last night as a 'cheer up you miserable cow' thing :D That was my feeling too, hopefully some studs and a practise run will sort us out- usually it's all me, but he just felt not-himself :(

I emailed it to her about 10 times before I dared to post :D My teachers will happily tell you that sitting and writing isn;t for me ("You're not making any friends of the teachers here, Alice"... Oops :D :D) And thank you :) I'm totally bias but I agree :L And yes... Lolo and mum say that a lot. Maybe I should break a habit of a lifetime and listen?!

:D Thank you! He felt very wobbly and especially XC I just forgot he's still really new to this game and PC tracks are a bit different to BE100! I think you've all been reading the same book as Lolo about being positive... :o Onwards and upwards to Lt. Downham where he loves :D

You and Fig need to start going XC :P You're dressage is far too good to waste :D Thanks :D

The line "It's really easy- look!" and she does the whole lot before I've even worked out how to thread the needle?! And then she won't let me practise because she's so much quicker that me doing it wastes time... Sisters! :D And never going back there ever ever again. Ever.

Well you must come back to isleham as other wise we wont see you much so there thats it your coming back :p your xc looked great. Didnt want you to think I was being stalker-ish but I heard you were coming on the tannoy as I was looking at my video and lolo always says how you like to watch the videos back.

I'd try sneak you in to a pc rally but as neither you or reg look any thing like us I think I would struggle to pretend to be us. We might be coming to watch ely so will keep an eye out for you at least you have had your not so great practice before ely now.

Great report :) but sorry to hear you had a bit of bad luck.

The bit above re plaiting really reminded me of having the same conversation with my little sister for years - and I never let her have a go either as she only ever seemed to want to try on show days and yes I was much quicker :p

Oh dear!! Yes never go there again! At least the XC was good, in the SJ he probably just picked up on the bad vibes surrounding the place and you probably had it subconciously in your head that things would go wrong. Amazing how horses just seem to read into our minds and know these things!
You have done an amazing job with him, he is a credit to you and I also think it's only fair on the rest of us that you had one bad day :p.

You'll have to come to one of our events instead :P Yes, I do, lots- mum was too nervous to get much as well! Hope so :O Wave if you're at Ely too- I'll remember my test this time :D :D

Yeah... I did a sewing practise the other day and I'm not bad. I'm just slow- but she's been doing 2 ponies/ horses every show morning since she was 11. I did the important jobs like brushing tails and watching her... :L :L

Thanks :D I'm rubbish with comps, Lolo had to do a 10 minute 'how to put a video on' lesson for me... I'll stick to being editor in the future :D

Oh dear - sorry to hear it wasn't your best day out. What level was that at?

Say hello to Lolo in exile!

PC level 4, with a level 5 stressage test and a slightly bigger SJ. So a beefy BE100 with a BE Novice test I think... So it's a big one and he did really well cos he isn't an old hand (I forget he's not XC a bit sometimes!). I will- she's having to stop procrastinating and revise... Which I should do as well. But playing ponies is more fun, lol!

He's soo sensitive as well and he felt so worried :( Poor pony! Hope he picks up on better ground and more practise. I have lots of bad days- Lolo makes them sound good... I leave the event grumbling and read her report and go "Well, that's not that bad really". Writing my own report I'm all "It was badddd" :D Thanks though, I am a big fan of your ginger pony- he's so cute and sucha dressage diva :D

Great report even if not a great result! He doesn't look his usual self in the SJ - perhaps as you say, he wasn't sure about the ground. XC looks good apart from the stop! You've done a great job with him, regardless.

Never mind - I too have a nemesis venue - Keysoe! Every time I go there I fall off. I've fallen on the XC course, in the SJ ring and in the SJ warmup. I've got 3 outings planned there in a 2 week period, to try to blitz our disaster zone, but if it goes wrong I simply won't go back there!

Well done anyway - and plaiting gets easier the more you do it, honest :D

Thank you :D And he doesn't- I was such a wally in the warm up and then didn't put it right and he got worried. Which was a shame because we had the canter that we get in lessons that he jumps really well from! He's such a pro XC, this year it just feels like we trust each other- when we had the thing with the skinny falling last year it really knocked his trust and he just didn't get it but this year he's been so cool!

I've given Isleham a fair try I reckon... Maybe, if we get really really solid at the level above we'll go back and try and blitz it :L Until then, never! I'm practising my plaiting at home with thread because Lolo (inconsiderate person that she is) is going to Africa when the Norfolk Show is on and we're doing the RoR class there... So a crash course in how to plait with thread is occurring, via FB :D She refused to nip back for that as well. I don't think she's a dedicated enough member of Team Reggie :L :L :P
