In The Haynet!!!

Help! I put hay in the hay net when my mare is in the stable and on the ground when she is in the field. But I've noticed that when she is in the field, she tends to roll on the hay and I'm worrying that this will irritate her. Help?

Probably finds it a good scratchy surface! A pony at my yard rolls and wees on it before eating. No joke, She probably does it about 8/10 times her owners put hay out for her. They put two piles out for the two ponies so whether its almost marking it I don't know but she does it too regularly for it to be coincidence!

My boy wees on hay in field too , its bizarre. I'd rather he rolled.

I wouldn't worry about it. If it was irritating, her body would react quite quickly and she would learn to stop rolling in the hay. I agree with gina that it's probably just a nice scratchy bed to roll on. If you are worried, keep an eye on her topline for any lumps or swellings. Bear in mind these could be a reaction from another cause and she finds the hay scratches the itch for her.
