 a very hairy pony ? Morning or evening ? I'm going for evening, but can't decide which is better really. Wish we had access to a river for swimming.. Answers on a postcard.. sm x

First thing in the morning is better if you can - the earlier the better.

By evening the heat has built up in his body and his core temperature will be higher. He will also be sweaty before you start. But first thing in the morning he will be cool from the night and his coat will be dry.

Plus he has all day to get rid of the sweat from exercising or to dry out if you sponge him off. If you ride in the evening then he could chill before he dries off properly - although that will depend on the temperatures after dark I suppose.

I much prefer early morning. Even when the sun is low in the evening, the air and earth temperatures are higher.

Early is better :) Heheh trust the one who lives in Africa :D
Nah but really..the earlier you can get up there, the cooler it'll be

Thankyou guys ! Yup, I think early morning it is then. I have just given him a shampoo and set and left it at that for today. Oh and had to slather the suncream on his snoz, fly spray on his nether regions... he does scrub up well, but he will be brown when I get down this avo :D sm x

My boy and I left the yard at 6.20 this morning and it was FABBY! Roads were really quiet too. My only concern was that some bleary-eyed driver was whizzing to work on a normally empty road and would come speeding round a corner to find us, but thankfully that didn't happen... phew!

I ride my lad at 5.30 throughout the summer...it is lovely and cool, no flies and no traffic! On misty mornings you get the best view accross the derbyshire valley too!

slightly selfish............. but I always go very early, that means I can have a late morning / early afternoon drink in the garden when he sun is out!!!
