Inappropriate Halloween costume at school

My kids' primary school had a Halloween party today, and in amongst all the ghouls, skeletons, witches, wizards and vampires, was a little girl from our local Pony Club, dressed in PC clothing, with fake blood all over her shirt

When I asked my son what she had come as, he said "a dead Pony Club rider"

Given that a child in the club did, in fact, get killed less than a year ago, I frankly find this rather sick.

Am I overreacting?

Off to the dentist now, but wanted to post before I went.

It is a very strange thing to send your child in. Even if you didn’t have any other costume surely a sheet with some eye holes would have done the trick.

I wonder what made the parents think of that in the first place.

a bit odd by itself... but the fact that a pc kid was killed makes it wrong i think.. presuming the child/parent knew of the death?

I'd assume it was unfortunate rather than sick but maybe have a quiet word with the parents if you see them casually?

There was a chap in my primary school who wore his rabbit suit at every opportunity - including when the whole class were supposed to be being pirates in Peter Pan. Could be as innocent as a pony-mad kid wanting to wear her kit rather than a 'boring' witch outfit.

I remember a kid coming to a fancy dress party in riding gear when I was a kid. Some parents find fancy dress really hard.

But given that a child in that pony club was killed fairly recently it was in bad taste.

Very odd and poor taste to start with, I dont see where a dead PC rider would fit into halloween, even more so under the circumstances.

That's very odd. Im pretty sure the parents can't have know about the PC rider that was killed otherwise that would be in very bad taste.
Mind you, last year my daughters school had fancy dress day, a (white) boy went as Barak Obama with his face blacked up....it was quite funny but borderline inappropriate and they did get lots of complaints.

Yeah, except the parents are loaded and their other kids were decked out in wizard costumes - I can't imagine they actually meant to offend, but I can't for the life of me see why any parents would think that this child's costume is in any way appropriate

I have kids who ride and considering the fear that they could have a terrible accident is always at the back of your mind, I think I find that quite upsetting!!

I'm not sure- how old is she? My sister used to do every fancy dress as a rider of some form, and there are quite few stories with dead PC riders in- I think one of the Pullein-Thompson sisters did a very scary one (I read it ages ago and it frightened the life out of 6yo me!).

LOL sorry that's the funniest things I've heard today. If the child thought up the costume herself then why should the parent stops her? If the parents thought it up then they may be a tad odd.

Can I ask how the pony clubber died last year? Was it a riding accident?

seems very inappropriate to be honest!did the child die in a riding accident?what were there parnets thinking!

i no if i knew someone who arrived as a car crash victim at halloween into our school the year after one of the students had died that way.there would be outrage!
heres hoping there is an innocent explanation...
but to be honest i find it very unnerving...

I think the oddest thing about it all is that the school had a Hallowe'en fancy dress competition. Most schools avoid Hallowe'en like the plague, in order to not have to address any concerns raised by parents/churchgoers etc who MAY object to 'celebrating' a 'heathen festival'.
