Incontinence in old dogs, what would you do?

Bed just slightly damp last night, perhaps the incurin is working,

This is so hard because she's so bright and happy. Those who know me will know that I'll call it when it's time. I never let my animals go too long.

I've invested in a super absorbent blanket which i can wedge under her favourite bed, hopefully it'll suck any wet through. Wierdly she doesn't smell and has such a short glossy coat that a quick wipe with a damp cloth cleans her.

Mine was on Incurin and it helped enormously and pretty much cured it. Something unrelated got her in the end. It sounds as if you are far more bothered by her problem than she is, so that sounds like a good plan with the blanket.

If she stays on the meds it might be worth getting a prescription and buying online.

Luckily my vets are a small independent vet, they don't overcharge for meds, the incurin is just over £20 a month, so not much more than online.

That sounds promising.

I had a bitch with spay incontinence. She was tried initially with Propalin with no improvement. Changed to Incurin and she became dry and we were able to reduce the dose.

I hope your old girl continues to improve and you are able to enjoy her company for a while longer.

Brandy has human bed underfleeces under her bed. They wash and dry in a couple of hours, and that’s with no room in the kitchen and no tumble drier! Glad it was a good night.
 
My bitch is on incurin and it's completely stopped her incontinence and she's gone down to one a week. Fingers crossed it will work for your dog, I'd definitely give it a bit longer to see if it works.

Like many I thought incontinence would be a PTS decision but when the dog is happy, eating etc then it just doesn't seem right for me (going through similar).

Lily has a heart murmur which is slowly getting worse, it's highly likely that she may have a major heart attack or go into heart failure at some point.
 
Our young dog started weeing on things when she was first spayed, she must have been four or five months old I'm guessing.

It wasn't much, half a teaspoon or thereabouts, just a very small patch but enough to start the carpets smelling. Mum wasn't impressed, so we took her to the vets and they gave her a tablet every day I think, it was 1991, a long time ago now.

Can't remember name of the tablets but think they were small white tablets.

Have you tried vet bed , it is designed to wick moisture away and stay dry on top
 
Depending on how much you like your sleep, if you think she can go four hours then you could try setting an alarm and letting her out for the toilet half way through the night?
 
I used to work at the vets as a receptionist. This is such a common problem for otherwise happy healthy animals. Get the dose of incurin increased if necessary but don’t PTS for a wet bed. I’d be getting up to let her out and making her bed out of towels and puppy pads.
 
Letting her out in the middle of the night doesn't work for us, we have 5 dogs this would wake them all! Also it's not to do with how long she goes, it just seems to happen randomly, but always at night, we've gone down the reuseable dog nappy route, not something I ever thought I'd try. She now sleeps in the kitchen, others in utility, now off the incurin, didn't work at all for her except made her attractive to my entire male. A quick wet towel in the morning if she's been wet and she's good to start the day. Luckily she has a very short coat.

She's still enjoying her food and short off lead walks on the farm (if it's not too hot) however she's getting increasingly wobbly and falls from time to time. This doesn't seem to bother her but if/when it does we'll call it a day.
