Help, please!
My 10 yr old bitch has started to 'leak', mainly while she's sleeping. Have read that there is medication you can use to tighten up the sphincter muscle, has anybody used this?

Are there any herbal supplements that would help with this problem?

(OH spotted dog nappies in the shop recently and seems set to use those which I don't think is funny at all....!)

Depends on the reason behind the leakage.

I had an older bitch that was incontinent while sleeping - and she would go out to do her business as usual but still would wake up from a sleep soaking wet. And sometimes she'd have random piddles in the kitchen.

The cause of her problem was a bladder tumour. It blocked the opening of her bladder when she strained to pee so that not much if anything could pass. Then when she was sleeping and all relaxed, it would just leak out. They prescribed metacam as this is meant to help reduce the size of the tumour somewhat. But it's not a cure.

IMO I would get it checked by the vet.

hi, i have a dog who has the leaking problem. i bought a nappy from pet nappy .co.uk and its fab. i dont buy the pads from them i use cheap tescos own brand nappies and a bit of double sided tape. they have been so great to use and he actualy seems relieved that he doesnt get up and leave a wet patch behind.they are expensive to buy but when we took all the vets bills into account this seemed more cost effective and better for him.(he has other problems and we didnt want to have to rely on more medication). i know you arent keen on the nappy idea but just have a look at the site. i dont work for them ive just found its a great product.
hope you get this sorted.:)

There are two main drugs for incontinence in female dogs, either incurin (hormone based) or phenylpropanolamine (non hormone based) type drugs. One of the two usually works very well.
