Has anybody any advice on how to cope with this or, even better, knowledge of anything to help control it. My old boy started developing it after a big op last November and it is getting worse. Do I just have to be careful where he lies and keep wiping up after him? Love him to bits and wouldn't give him up yet, he's very happy.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Firstly...using vet bed as a form of bedding...locks the urine into the bottom layer of the bedding...to prevent him lying on the urine when passed...and its its easy to clean..just bung in the wash, it also dries very quickly.
You can also get a syrup from your vet..called PROPALIN...it works by way of helping to control the uretherl muscle...its is an excellent incontinence med.
Make an appointment for the vets...so they can determine a diagnosis and discuss the types of meds u can use.

Have found propalin very good for bitches with UI, not tried it on dogs. Was his op anything to do with his prostate? I would get him checked by the vet as older dogs can develop prostate problems.

Thanks for those replies. He had an anal hernia repaired and had to be castrated at the same time, because they always do it as they believe it is the male hormone that destroys the rectal muscle. He was found to have testicular cancer when they operated, but they are pretty certain it was all removed and not spread. He is now on Peridale, which absorbs water to soften the stools for passing. He does drink more now because of it, but not excessively.
