Hi,

I was wondering if there is any independent companies you can go to for feed advice?

I don’t want to go to a feed company like Saracens etc as they’ll promote their own feed. I just want to know how and what to feed my horse for her specific requirements?

I used to work for one of the major feed brands and, to be honest, whilst yes we do prefer to sell our own product, I will have no hesitation recommending a competitor brand if that is what I think would be most beneficial to the horse. Most feed brands have fairly identical product catalogues anyhow.

We'd often have people come onto stand at events and ask which they should switch to from x brand and i'd always ask why switch? If horse is doing well then leave it, not broken don't fix etc

I follow her on FB and she seems to have a sensible approach

I've used Clare MacLeod for nutritional advice and found her really helpful. You do have to pay but she gives very balanced advice and several options and explains it all well. She'll answer any follow up questions you have too so I think it's well worth it. She has an MSc in equine nutrition so she does know her stuff.

I recommend Clare as above. I used someone else and wasn't 100% sure of her advice - I use pro balance and was told she doesn't recommend it as she can't say it's good quality.
What was recommended to me I wasn't happy to feed due to amounts needed for a native pony.
