Indiscriminate breeding/cull happening right here in the UK

I know this reply is slightly behind everyone else's but I just wanted to add: The message that the OP has highlighted has recently been published in Essex Rider magazine as a letter. I read it in the good faith I thought it was meant and, after discussing with OH, decided we could offer a good home to 2 of these mites and break them for driving at a later date. I rang this Jackie but the rudeness and bad attitude from her was unbelieveable!! Apparently this was originally an email sent to a few friends concerning 14 ponies, but it has been forwarded on around the country as these things are wont to do. She has had countless calls and emails and is totally fed up with the whole thing. She had a right go at me and told me to have a go at the magazine but I said it was too late, it was already published, and not to take it out on me when I was actually offering to help! I was furious! And apparently, if you look on the DPHT website, there is no cull planned after all.

Anyways, long story short, OH and I still want to rehome a couple of these guys and have been trying to find out more about the sales etc. If anyone can offer any help on this that would be great. May even be happy to get colts if can persuade a local vet to do us a deal. If anyone else from Essex or nearby is considering a trip and bringing a "job lot" back would be happy to get involved too. Next sale is on 1st October at Tavistock.

Agree with others that maybe these ponies should never have been bred in the first place, but we're happy to try and help a couple of those that unwittingly find themselves in this situation.

Please, please do not buy at the sales, every £ the breeder gets will encourage them to allow the mares to breed again next year! If they have to pay the cost of shooting and disposal that is money goning OUT of their pockets, every penny they get is an incentive to carry on.

I was at Redwings in February and they were just setting out in a huge convoy to ppick up thirty-odd hill ponies in Wales. I'm pretty sure they've brought in another consignment of indiscriminately bred ponies from elsewhere since then. It uses up a crazy amount of resources :(
