If you were doing a best junior rider class, would you just do a standard show e.g. trot circle on each rein, canter circle on each rein, extended canter and then trot and halt in front of judge, or do you think it's a good idea to do one of the trot circles sitting, show something more fancy like a serpentine etc? or any other ideas?

In a best rider class it would be a very good idea to incorporate some sitting trot in to your show.
When I'm judging these classes I ask for competitors to show me some sitting trot during their show.

I'd just do the standard unless they ask for specific things - which judge may well do.

Is so tedious when Ind shows go on for ages

.however still essential to see enough to judge the class as per the schedule.

I know... did a show last year with 22 in the line up. I was 3 from the end. I thought I was going to die of boredom!

Good though as got to watch everone and realised that less is def more, in terms of shows.

How about:

Walk away from judge
Rising trot figure of 8
Sitting trot serpentine
Canter figure of 8
Halt by judge

I do a variation of this depending on ring space, and it was suggested by my RI who judges a lot of equitation classes.
I'm of the opinion that the more you do, the more that can go wrong!

Some judges may also request you do the individual show without stirrups so beware!

The show fairhill suggested is good but far too long. The judge will die of boredom and there is more chance of things going wrong! Just do your normal show (or whatever the judge asks for). If your pony can do lengthened strides in trot, then show these as well as lengthened strides in canter. Always try to leave the judge wanting more!
