Willow has her first ever coat not to keep her warm but to keep her dry in an attempt to reduce the wet dog smell She is 10 and a half now so it also means she is not sleeping wet or damp or at least thats the plan she has a coat like a bear so is inclined to move her bed away from the cold floor to cool down, trouble is that means her hocks and elbows get sore. It as taken weeks to get her to sleep on her new donut bed and even then its only because wants to be near me and its at my feet. Hope the pup is happier in her pjs

Do you know anyone that knits a nice little stretchy jumper would work or just get an old duvet and wrap her up in it before bed, I have a very whimpy JRT who refuses to go anywhere that is cold, I have to literally shove her out for a wee in the mornings even with a coat on!

She does have her own duvet, and a throw. And two pillows ?

Reading Mrs M's post. And others. I see Equafleece recommended but the indoor ones all seem to have those awful legs you have to manipulate the dog into. I see this one... has anyone used it and is it as hard to get on and off as it looks!?

Yes, we have and love it - we went one size up so nice and roomy plus it makes it easier to put on/off. Keeps hound, who has very thin skin, warm and cosy on cold nights

Equafleece do them with zips too. But never had a problem putting them on mine. Even spindle legs the Sprollie. The material has reasonable stretch so it's easier than it looks. Spaniel has to wear his house coat after every walk else he ends up shivering, even in summer.

I am so glad to read this. Pepper shivers even in her bloody dry robe thing. I have to thoroughly dry her, then dry robe, put her by the fire. She actually does better in a dog dry bag.

Absolutely pathetic, the dog hasn't left the house without a coat on for weeks. It's not worth the shivering and sad eyes in the car on the way home!

I bought the Equafleece for the Weim when he was little and it was a pita so hunted around and found this one

It is brilliant . I bought one for the old hound as well and they absolutely love them. Easy to put on if you do the zip up, but just a bit, not all the way and then pop their legs through and zip it all the way .:) x

We have this one, it is a useful layering one but not half as thick as the Hotterdog or Equifleece ones. A spring/autumn jacket LOL.

I share the shame with terrier types.

On the left, Crackers sporting a Mark Todd Thermatex type with fleece lined flying jacket over. On the right is Hector with Hotterdog jumper (with tailor fitted zip) with fleece lined flying jacket over. Even with this, they can only stay out half an hour or be shivering.

I have a photo somewhere of Oscar Spaniel after a swim in the lake. We had to hang around longer than I thought afterwards (MrPF was running a marathon and having a bad day, we were waiting to cheer him on) and he was so, so cold. I put his Equafleece on. And another coat on top. He was still shivering so he ended up wrapped in a towel, with a down jacket over him on the passenger seat of the car with the heating on full and all the blowers pointed at him. ? He warmed up then.

I'm seriously considering a full body waterproof for walks around the croft just to stop the constant needing to dry off and warm up process. Living in kennels must make them tougher. There's no way 'proper' dogs get so cold surely?

Feeling for your dilemma OP!

My house is "shameful" too........... its an old Grade 2 listed pile that I inherited and would frankly freeze the bum off a snow-leopard its soooh darned cold! I swear it is actually warmer OUTSIDE in the yard doing the horses than it is inside trying to keep warm!

My little terrierist in particular is feeling the cold, he's an old boy now and getting a bit arthriticky. I have got Equafleece jackets for both dogs - they've learnt to shove their paws in where they're supposed to and are used to that now.

Some good ideas on here!!

Ordered! So cheap! She can layer ?
Honestly unless she is living in a very cold house you probably won't need to. Both my dogs have hardly any coat and although they sleep in the front room with a woodburner it's out by about 4-5 am. When I get up at 7ish both are always toasty warm and stretched out happily on their sofa's. The sizes are generous and even go down over their tails quite a way. They also don't seem to bunch up which if i'm honest was one of the other things I disliked about the Equafleece.

eta . Just seen Stiff Knees dog and have to say he looks way more comfy than mine did in his Equafleece

Teddy wears a Christmas pudding jumper in the winter, otherwise he cries out loud at night. At the Christmas dog training class he wears a Rudolph coat and his ride on Santa (only for a short amount of time) he does look funny when he runs down the hall and the Santa wobbles about. ?.

I’ve got a WCS so supposed to be used to working in the wet/cold, but no, shivers at the suggestion of any wet/cold weather. Shamefully she has an equafleece, a neoprene wetsuit (for beach/river walks) and a drying coat. Oh and did I mention she sleeps underneath the duvet in bed with me?!

The Weatherbeeta one came today. As modelled by very tired dog. I really recommend it for ease of putting on, simples. I love it!
Ooh she looks great in it Clodagh !:)
It is really easy to put on isn't it . Both mine offer their legs now which is even better!
They wash well too. Neither have shrunk
Think Iv'e got the Weim in a 70cm and the old hound in a 60cm. Both a little long but actually it's nice for them to be a bit more covered. Bit drafty in my front room. It used to be a barn and still bloody feels like one too.
