Hi,

I am in the process of buying a place with a cattle shed (50 x 25) it is modern indoor school type building which currently has concrete floor with drainiage slats.

I am looking to remove the concrete floor and build uop the space beneath and then put surface on top.

Has anyone done this, how difficult was it, what was cost involved for surface and what surface did you use? Many thanks

My advice is to go for the best surface you can buy. And if you can get a waxed surface. Every other surface will need a lot of watering otherwise you'll have a deep and dusty surface.

So if you have £s to spend- waxed surface (look at Andrews Bown or Martin Collins).
If you don't make sure you can spend some £s on irrigation.

Also make sure you get a decent leveller, they make a HUGE difference!

yes!
we just made sure there was drainage on the concrete. then ordered a whole lot of sand!!! and to level out the surface we use a chain spiked harrow pulled by the quad also when it gets dry i use a long hose and a garden sprinkler. however it does require the tractor to go in and level out the corners with the bucket every 4 month ish. one down side to this is (we are frm up north) it freezes solid and is unusable so this year it was out of action for a long time. also if the doors are left open the wind drys the sand out fast. hope this helps and btw we train racehorses on it and they do fine, it makes them work harder as apposed to the rubber stuff that they bounce on!!!

We have sand and rubber. In summer in particular it needs regular watering. We have wall mounted sprinklers with a fish pond pump which sucks the water out of a large water trough. As said, also regular levelling - best to do it in large circles rather than up and down.

Check height is sufficient, especially if you wat to jump. I hope the measurements you gave were in metres and not feet!
