We are just in the very last stages of completing our new Indoor School in West Lancashire.

Its a new addition to the livery yard we run and looking at ways of helping to pay for it.

Would like to know what sort of prices people would expect to hire one? Also if you are a DIY livery on the yard what would you expect to pay?

We dont intend upping everyones livery to include the lights etc as someone people have retired or none backed horses so wouldnt be fair on them.

A yard I used to be at over 10 years ago used to charge £3.00 per half hour plus £1.00 for the lights for liveries but obviously things have gone up since them

Its 40x20 with very good lighting and a sand surface which will be rolled, harrowed and sprinkled where necessary.

Thanks

Lizzie

We pay £10 per hour to hire if we want exclusive use for lesson etc. otherwise shared school use for liveries is included in the livery fee for anytime it's not booked out for private hire. We pay £2.50 for half an hour's lights on a meter. (Not much done in the way of regular maintenance at all though).

we charge £18 per hour (not per horse) and £32 per hour if jumps wanted. this is charged to outside people. otherwise its in the cost of the livery unless for sole use then charges are as above

Hi,
i run a yard in West Lancs (have been for nearly 11 years - yilkes!) anyway, we dont charge extra for the liveries to use the indoor (even if they are having a private lesson etc), or for the lights. We also dont hire it out to outside people - i'd check with your insurance as you may find the premium will jump up.
Locally, i believe other yards charge around £15-£20 an hour to hire their indoors.

Thanks everyone. Our livery is reasonably cheap as we didnt have the best facilities before but like I said dont feel it would be fair on people with none riddens to blanket a livery increase so thought it might be fairer to charge per half or hour a bargain amount for liveries to include the lights.

We've checked with the insurance and as long as we don't hire it for competitions it hasnt been too much more.

Instead of charging liveries for shared use, why not hold some fun fundraiser shows in the new indoor to raise money towards the cost of the new indoor? My old yard used to have a bonus ball competition and fundraiser shows that liveries bought into for improving facilities, whereas using facilities that were already there was included in the weekly rent.

My friend's yard also used to hire their indoor out to other events such as dog shows on the proviso that they cleared up after themselves.

We paid £1 an hour on the meter for lights, and £5 an hour to hire the school for exclusive use say if you were having a lesson, but if you didn't mind others coming in during your lesson you didn't have to pay.

Personally if I was paying my livery and the facility was there I would expect reasonable shared use to be included and would be a bit disgruntled if it wasn't.

We're in the PP stage of our Indoor Arena. Our plans at the moment are for the liveries to pay an extra £40 per month if they want to use the Indoor, to be paid at the beginning of the month. If they don't committ to this they can always hire it instead. We'll hire it out for £15 per hour (for shared use) and £20 per hour for Private use. We'll be insured for outside use like we are with our Outdoor.

I have use of a 25x60 indoor and a 20x40 indoor at my yard aswell as 2 outdoors. I pay about £60 a week for DIY and that includes all hay and bedding too. To hire an indoor for a lesson it costs £5 for 45min because i'm a livery. An outsider would pay £15 I think it is. Lights arent anything extra.

I am on a yard with an inoor, and its available for use at any time for liveries. This is included in the price. I`d be extremely miffed if I was expected to pay extra.

Why not have different livery prices for ridden and non ridden horses?

Could you not have a two tired livery price, one that included use of the indoor and the other that didn't.

At my friends livery yard they charge you to use the school, and i would never livery there as i like to school a few times a week, so it would have made livery there really expensive for me. I would however consider paying a set amount per month for unlimited use as it is a really nice school.
