Indoor yards - sealing concrete to prevent dust

We have a lovely indoor yard but dust is a real problem. No matter how much the concrete is swept, it slowly gives off more and more layers of tiny particles.

Our tack room floors are also concrete but are now painted with trade floor paint, it has made a huge difference

Had anyone very tried painting sealant of some sort on to a concrete yard?

There seem to be plenty of products for it, but I’m not sure how it would stand up to horse traffic and also how it would look?

Any thoughts/ideas appreciated!

You will be better looking at paints spec'd for "medium to heavy traffic", they will mean forklifts and vehicles etc so they probably won't guarantee how it will stand up to shod horses everyday but most of them will also have a non-slip component. Or you can add your own non-slip grit to the paint before application. This kind of thing.

Anything for like garage floors etc will have a smooth finish with no anti-slip and will be for like, workshops with mostly foot traffic, not intended for outdoor use.

We sell a fair bit of floor paint, and to withstand a lot of traffic you need 2 pack epoxy. this does withstand heavy machinery, how it would stand up against metal horse shoes im not sure.
Id just try pva on it and see how you get on.

the other year i put some of our standard floor paint on my wash bay as a test. i must have a look and see how its lasted. will update later.

We put concrete sealer on our stable floors. We did sweep the concrete before it had set when we put the floor in to give it a rougher texture than a polished finish but the sealant didn’t make it any more slippy. I don’t notice any dust

Have you thought about just applying a PVA glue sealer.

have a read of the reviews hear someone applied it to concrete floor to stop dust, they were going to paint afterwards but if that does the job all the better.

Plus it is cheap.

thank you - I had come across this but it sounded too good to be true, but it might just be sufficient and like you say, it’s cheap to give it a go!
