Hi everybody, I have just registered to this forum to ask for help. My horse, Armina, had colic at the end of August. She was treated with infusions overnight and recovered well.
Small lump developed at the place of incision after the infusions on the vein. It was not bigger than 5 x 8 x 1 cm (thickness). The vet kept telling, its OK.
Around 20th September, the lump became big, swollen and warm. Armina felt apparently uneasy. She did not have fever. The vet said, its hypodermic infection. She has got first antibiotics Norodine and cream Dolobene. She took antibitotics for 7 days.
One week improvement -> again worsening - jugular part of the neck swollen + vein leading behind the jar (leading to the ear) swollen + the right part of the head swollen.
We did ultrasound: the vein is free, the hypodermis is swollen and presses the vein - that should cause the swelling on and around right part of her head. The lump on the vein does not have clear centre of infection.
Since that time she has got twice antibitotics Cobactan as injections (twice for 4 days), Fenylbutazol to the mouth (for 2 weeks) and cream Aphlegmin. We did another 2 ultrasound examinations to check development - nothing new.
She becomes better after every medication of new antibiotics.
In between, she became so bad, that she e.g. was not able to reach the floor with her head. The texture of the lump also changes, now and than soft, next time hard.
Two weeks back, I went to the horse hospital which is happily very close. They had there horse with the same problem. They really call it hypodermis infection. They dont want to open it or to attack it by needles to take some sample to examine.
They gave me antibiotics Enrogal 10 % - she gets them every day to the mouth and she should get it for 4 - 6 weeks. They told me that such infection needs lots of time to heal.
Since that time, it has looked like very well 2 weeks back and now it becomes worse and worse again. But for now, she is in quite good mood, at least.
Yeap, I will go to the hospital on Monday again and try hard to persuade them to take her and operate it. Or at least examine somehow.
I would really appreciate any advice, experience. If you have any secret receipts for salves, teas.... welcome.

P.S. Sorry for my English, I dont come from UK
