Been looking at this in this months YH mag, do you think it will take off? I think its a good idea in principle but im thinking as its attached to your saddle id get back home and forget about it jump off and accidently inflate it!!

they have had lots of problems with them inflating for no reason and at the wrong time!!! Also there was something to do with the noise of them.

another problem being that they dont tend to absorb as much concussion as a standard back protector which speads the surface area!

the noise is a big no-no for me, they sound like a gunshot. if you were still in the saddle in a rotational fall, it would not detonate because the lariat would not detach. when they go off they are really really tight and really take your breath away, not great... i was involved in testing one years ago.

I'm just thinking I would forget to unclip when I got back to the yard and turn into a blueberry shaped monster as I dismounted...I don't think you'd see my horse for dust if that happened!

I'll stick with the conventional body protectors

I brought one of the below mentioned air back jackets at HOYS this year. I am so gald i did as i have had 2 big falls since then, the jacket was great & gave me fantastic protection on both falls. Maybe im lucky but my horse didnt spook at all with the inflation noise (that sounds nothing like a gun!!), she had already been spooked which caused the fall.
I must admit i did forget to detatch myself from the saddel a couple of times which did inflate the jacket, but now its second nature for me & i have no problems at all.

i cant beleive it. after seening your debate yesterday on the forum, i was very suprised today, when flicking through the racing pages of the national newspaper The Sun 06/12/08. John Frankhams colum, he talked about the inflatable body protectors, he said he had just done a feature on them for channel 4 racing to be shown over Cheltenham week. He gave them his backing, which must be a good thing considering he was one of the front runners in bringing body protectors out for the use of jockeys.

Do you remember to undo your seat belt when you get out of the car? well there you see its just a matter of engaging the correct thought pattern. I think the jacket is a fantastic new invation and if it reduces any amount of serious injuries to the thousands of recreational riders there are today then its a good thing. You hear of too many accidents where riders have to be air lifted as a result of falling off.

not for me....I'm too in love with the kanteq body protector which I got from santa last year! Its shaped to fit and really really comfy. Definitley worth checking out (plus all the top lady event riders wear them......if its good enough for jeanette...maybe I;ll even ride like her one day......)
