Has anyone used one? Flick greyhound has managed to nibble at her tail until it is raw - I am plastering sudocrem on it, and will take her to the vets for a skin scraping if it doesn't improve quickly, but I need her to leave it alone for now!

I was sure whether the inflatable type of collar would stop her getting to her tail?

Yes, I bought one and it was a godsend. Can't think why vets don't just supply them instead of the awful cones. Mine is a couple of years old and will next be used when puppy girl is spayed.

Dependent on the size of the dog, get an old towel (tea towel for the tiny ones and bath towel for the biggies), twist the towel and then wrap around dogs neck. Secure it either by tying the ends and tucking in, sewing or taping. If towel is way too long it is sometimes best to cut to a smaller size, but works very well.

Unlikely to solve tail in mouth problem if tail, tongue and dog are long. Best tail dressing we found was tensoplast (sticky strapping type bandage) then polsterplast (animal polster) with absorbant dressing over sore bit then more tensoplast holding polsterplast on.

Polsterplast is foamy stuff which gives good padding.

Had fun with lab who destroyed his tail tip wagging in doorways!

yes i found them really good after spaying but if your dog is flexible i suspect it wont solve the problem . If you can stop the chewing and use Vetricyn for a few days on the tail until its healed and no broken skin, then Bitter Apple spray works well to deter in future :)

Pipe lagging was quite hot for lab. Sweated horribly. Syringe case was disastrous for him post trim- nasty wet eczema leading to multiresistant pseudonomas and 12 hourly dressing changes for about a month...

Polsterplast was a tailsaver!

As others have said I suspect it wouldn't stop her reaching her tail. I used one for Evie after spaying and it was absolutely great, I then used it on Freya when she was spayed and she destroyed it overnight. Foolishly I then bought another one and she destroyed that too, so they don't work for every dog.

Thanks very much for all the ideas, I'm very grateful :) Ironically she has left her tail alone today, so maybe bathing it in salt water did some good (she was very unappreciative of that!) - I will see how she goes

Thanks again :)
