I bought a horse in September from a dealer. He was imported from Holland but there was no passport when we bought him. He has a brandmark which we think is the Sachsen Anhalt one and he has a microchip number but i cant find it on any of the databases. I would love to know his age and breeding and what hes done abroad. Can anyone help me please?!?

I would go back to the dealer and ask him/her a few questions about your horse eg: is the horse definately from Holland, and what evidence does the dealer have to support this? Why no passport? I find this particularly odd, as every horse here on the continent must have one, even my scruffy coloured cob. You say the horse has a microchip number - is this written down somewhere? And on what? Can you describe the brand - a piccy would be even better?! Sorry so many questions, but there are many loose ends here ....

I have the same problem but no luck yet.

Warmblood from dealers with 'import papers' (could well be forged or that of a similar horse), no passport, a microchip number beginning NL and a brand (Zangersheide - Z in a crest incase you were wondering).

My dad did question the dealers but they didn't reply and to be honest I don't think its worth chasing up with them as they had our money and i'm not that bothered as he's a wonderful horse. He also turned out to be 3.5 years old not 'approx 5' as it said on the papers.

Let me know if you find a database, there is a Belgain vet at my local practice who I think might know but I haven't had a chance to ask him yet.

We got him from Rikki Gradley. He was honest with us and he has been everything he was said to be. I love him to bits and couldnt have found a better horse- i just want to know his history! People have told me he may have been an 'insurance write off' competed to a good level but could no longer do it it for some reason and then had just been sent for meat or something and his passport discarded. But he would have to have had a passport to come to this country wouldnt he?

i would say that knowing that dealers history he probably was sent over as "write off".

he probably got a travel passport to come over with.

my horse came over with one, and all it contained was a name - nothing else.
so pretty useless really!!

i did get his actual passport in the end though!

Has the vet scanned his microchip?

Sounds a little dodgy to me but if he's a nice horse then it doesnt really matter bar the reduced re-sale value!!

yeah i bought a horse from Rikki last October, he seemed really honest but then when i had severe health probs with my horse he didnt want to know. he said she came from holland but her passport was lithuanian and all that that had was a name probably not even hers. sadly she had to be put to sleep in january and i have been left with nothing. So please anyone do not fall for his so called honesty as its all complete BALLOCKS!

Govenor- That sounds familiar!!! Could almost garuntee your papers were forged!!! Mine were!! Didn't know you had to have import papers to move a horse from Essex!!!

i had the same from a different dealer . forged passport, breeding papers , vetting and shipping papers. mine had a passport from belgium but the microchip originated in holland. i was able to get my money back. but the same dealer has sold many unsuitable horses and not refunded any money

i tried every microchip company and when i did find out who put it in there was no breeding recorded so that is when i returned her. i would never had known it was only when she had a wolf tooth out it became infected so called the vet who decided to check the microchip and found out that it was not the one recorded. i bought this mare especially for her breeding. my vet was also worried that she could of been stolen. i also charged the dealer livery costs and vet bills.

i just kept trying all the microchip manufacturers. petplan where able to tell me which ones start with certain numbers. i did contact the passport issuing agency also and they gave me some other passport agencys. it was like a paper trail but i got there in the end. do you know the breeder? they would know if it was one of theres.
