Info wanted on the Catherston Stud (and Catherston Dazzler)

Darkie is not at Catherston now, he stands at Langaller in Devon, along with another Catherston stallion C. Liberator. I knew both stallions well a few years ago and worked with a number of their progeny. As a horse I prefer Darkie to Libs, but for progeny, I prefer Libs babies. They are more even tempered and trainable - possibly not as talented, but will work with you more readily.

Catherston stud are so professional, their service was outstanding when my mare went there. I couldnt have been more pleased with the way things turned out and how well the mare was looked after.

I'd just wish that they would update their website it is so hopelessly outdated!!

Catherston Dazzler babies are usually very complex and tricky but really talented.

Liberator is now based back at home at Catherston as he is coming back into competition with Jennie's young rider, who will be competing on him next season.
The stud is fab and I know a couple of the staff there very well and would have to say that they give excellent service. I was up there 2 weeks ago and have to say that Libs is looking awesome at the moment with the new work. I agree with what SN says about temperament with the Libs babies, who are all lovely and hard working.
They've also got Springsteen based at home and he is also a lovely boy with a nice temperament and some stunning babies!
If you want more foreign bloodlines, their Sandro Hit stallion, Deanes San Ciro Hit is simply WOW! He is set to event now next season with Sam Griffiths (did one or 2 events late this season) and I have to say that whilst he is a stallion that is taking a bit of time to mature (he had an imperfect start to life before the guys at Catherston got him) but once everything starts to come together he should be awesome (incidentally they subsequently bought San Ciro Hit's dam and she had a Liberator foal last year I believe and so that should be some recommendation for him that they are using him on their decent mare's themselves). Phoebe Buckley's little 4 star mare Little Tiger also had ET foals to Libs this year and has another due for next year now.

Bruce is a fabulous stallion! If it wasn't for his front leg, I'd breed him to B in a shot! In fact he would have been Hector's Dad if it wasn't for his leg!

QR: Pleased to hear Libs seems to be getting more mares, I know you don't see many of his in YH classes but my 8yo is looking better and better with age. Good news too that he'll be returning to competition, will it be dressage of eventing?

Thanks for your replies.

Without going into detail, we're not going near Glenwood, so that one is out of the question

So, general concensus is Dazzler has difficult babies but lots of talent, and Lib has easy babies with less talent....hmmm this proves interesting...

Looking for something for this mare:

15.3 black mare.....exceptionally talented, points at medium blah blah...but has a difficult temp when ridden....

Originally thinking of going down the tiger lines.....ideally we want something black...any ideas?

We have a Dazzler 3yo filly, who although she can be a bit sharp she hans't got a bad bone in her body. If she starts getting worked up you just have to be quiet with her and she soon shuts up!

Tigers_Eye: Libs is going to be going out doing YR Dressage - not jumping anymore but is so far going absolutely fabulously in dressage.

To the OP - of it is one of these guys you are especially interested in then I would say Libs without a doubt. You should also go and see him in the flesh as he is a lot lighter built and much more handsome in the flesh than he is in ANY of the photos you will see around of him. He is abso;utely gorge and his temp is fab. Plus I know for a fact that his semen is SUPERB and that there are several well known event mare's that cannot get in foal to anything else they've tried as they themselves have low fertility levels and his is the only rocket fuel that seems to work.

My only experience is that of my own horse, who I bought off his breeder. I personally err on the side of offspring getting most of their temperament and attitude from mum, but my boy apparently is more laid back than his mum (and he's fairly horizental!), other things Liberator improved on in the mare were toughness and paces. Here's a pic of mine:

Oh, and he was about average in terms of physical maturity, but was fairly slow mentally!

You should have a look at their new stallion Deanes San Ciro Hit, my High Tension mare has been covered by him, he is Black!! By Sandro Hit, and has Dutch Courage as the dam sire and Saunter ( sire of winsome Adante ) as the great dam-sire.

He's a lovely lovely boy in the stable, fantastic conformation, beautifull strong limbs and great feet, and obv a super mover.Really powerfull jump but technique still needs to develop. He was champion of his stallion grading and just won his first advanced medium a month ago and he is only 6 years old!

His eventing record looks pretty mixed for this year. But as eventrider says, he needs time to mature and to come together. I believe that Sam has only ridden him at events not at home so must have been tricky for them to develope the partnership. Plus he has been covering mares at the same time as competing. But Sam has said to me that he really rates him.

Fab!! The Preci spark breeders ( all the horses with the funny names starting with TRE..) have quite a number of foals by him on the ground out of their 4 star mares Erbium, The Masters Lady and their other 4 star mare that was short listed for the teams, who's name escapes me right now!

The Wexford Lady perhaps??
I wonder if Julia at Future Sports Horses would be interested in using him on Justwith Genoa seeing as she is still having ET foals.....just think that with the Saunter link he would be a good stallion for her to go back to seeing as Winsome Adante obviously was such a good horse....

Hi, any chance you could pm me about this. I'm meant to be sending my mare to Dance in the Dark next spring, so any info would be greatfully accepted if thats not too cheeky too ask!

I used to ride a horse by Catherston Dazzler, this is him on his way to coming 9th at the Olympics at about 9 yrs old:

So vcery talented but very quirky! He had been in a number of homes before we had him and at 4yrs old ended up at the sales as a difficult horse. He was sharp and spooky but wit good handling he settled in to being a brilliant horse. He was always a sharp horse though.
