Hi there, i'm looking to find out information if anyone knows anything of Otis. I would like to find out how many foals he has produced and whether there are any straws left kind of thing.

The reason i ask is, i own a horse called springtime joy, who is coming up for 4 years old. We had her down England being broken in and had some problems so she went to Newmarket vet hospital to get tested. As it turns out, she has severe kissing spine which is inoperable and 2 vertebra out of place or something just where saddle would sit.. Basically, she can never be ridden.Gutting!

He dad is Otis, who i believe is now deceased but was owned by Harry Aird. I have looked for information all over the net but have been unsuccessful. Looking for information for insurance purposes and we are looking at using her as a brood mare so would be useful to know any information on him.

thanks

Will carrying & delivering a foal not cause her pain? My friend only suffered a slipped disc, like me had no end of problems, unlike me went on to fall pregnant & had a nightmare time in the last months. I am assuming your vets have ok'd it. I know there are different levels of kissing spine, & I know of mares who have had to be PTS as the vets advised against trying for a foal.

My mare had a foal by Otis. He was out of a mare called Kaligra and was by Acorado. This is his 5 generation pedigree - http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/otis6 He was a lovely natured horse. He was 16.2/3hh, dark bay with a bit of white on face and a few white socks. I have no photos of him sadly. Mine is the same age as yours now. There were three or four yearlings when my mare was put in foal that were his first progeny so they would be 6 now. I think he died/was PTS from colic possibly late 2008. Hanleen Stud contact number is 07785 597521.

hi, no the vet's at newmarket ok'd it, its weight on top of her back that is the problem, and obviously we would not be thinking about it if there was a chance that she would be in pain.

thanks for all the info everyone, been a great help. she looks alot like her daddy :)
