inhand bridles for a welsh section a

my welshie matrix will be ging to a big county show (his first county :eek:)
and for the occasion i am going to get him a made to measure inhand bridle as his head doesnt fit off the shelve sizes. he is a black 9 yr old gelding.
i think he should be in a white halter but he really does need a bit, he is "highly strung"...
here is his head- dont be fooled by the cute face...

You can get white halters that you can attach bits to. I saw quite a few like this at the Royal Welsh Show. I'll have a look and try to find a pic for you. :)
 
Ok, if you get a halter like this with the metal sections that join the headpiece to the nosepiece

and then either metal bit snaps

he will look the part and you should have control.
 
ooh thnks- that is something to consider.
i still think an inhand bridle would also look nice- another option, as i know a great saddlery, but dont know about flat/raised noseband? or brass browband etc?
 
I always presumed (rightly or wrongly) that only mares/fillies and foals wore the white halters in the Welsh breeds. I might be completely wrong but that's how i'd like to see it anyway! If I had a welsh gelding he'd be straight in an in-hand bridle regardless of him needing a bit or not! I like the plain inhand bridles with a slightly raised noseband and a nice clincher browband. Not sure if this is correct mind you! Only looked into the white halters for my filly so not all clued up on geldings.
 
right deffo getting the inhand bridle- with a clincher browband, but one question and then i will stop bumping- promise :p

What I have noticed showing my section A is that yearlings are generally in a white halter, then 2yo classes are a mix of halters and in hand bridles. After that, generally mares are often kept in the white halters, irrespective of their age, as are some geldings, but it is more usual to see geldings from 2 or 3 years old in bridles.
Try Fylde Saddlery for an in hand bridle, I'm pretty sure they will do made to measure (around £80 I should think).
I was always told that bridles for welshies should be plain, no clincher or raised detail as these detract from look of the head, but have noticed all different kinds at shows so I think it is probably down to personal preference.

yes, that is helpful :) i know a very good place which will do made to measure :) i will get a plain browband and clincher just in case :) i really dont know whether to get plain or rasied, he does have a very fine head- but food for thought- thanks :)
