I would like to show my unregistered New Forest in some small local inhand shows. I notice some people wear beige jeans / Chinos & a hacking jacket with shirt & tie. I've got the opportunity to buy a 2nd hand navy hacking jacket, would this be acceptable or should I stick with a brownish jacket?

Thanks in advance.

What colour do other competitors ware?

I would have thought that as long as it was tweed, you would be ok.

My friend borrowed my blue tweed jacket for her coloured class and came 1st.

For M&Ms you should wear tweed, and avoid blue colours and strictly speaking velvet colours.

A lot of the welshie people wear a waistcoat instead of a jacket.

You can also either wear a hard hat or a trilby and do make sure your hair is tied back and neat. Mine is very long so it is in a bun and then netted.

Brown gloves are also the done thing.

I wear a grey tweed jacket (bog standard Dublin one), shirt and tie, usually beigey cord trousers though I couldn't find them last time so blue jeans had to do! I wear black gloves and black velvet cover on skull cap, which matches black 'oss perfectly. What colour is your NF? For local shows I don't think it really makes a difference, at a local one we went to at the weekend the winner was in puffa gillet, jeans and dubarrys!

If your pony has dark legs then wear lighter trousers and vise versa. Dark legs on you and dark pony, judge won't see the action of the pony very well. I wear tan coloured cords with a shirt tie and a black waistcoat. If wearing a jacket, any colour will do if its tweed but for local level it really doesn't matter. Just clean and smart will do.
