can anyone help with how i should be dressed, and how my mare should be turned out, this is the first time i have shown anything inhand so am panicing slightly as the show is two weeks away

You should wear light coloured trousers, shirt and tie and either a tweed jacket or waistcoat. Flat caps look more in style than riding hats with m&m's and gloves.

Welshes are the breed that you can go to town with on trimming! I would pull her mane about an inch shorter, take off her whiskers, beard and trim her ears. Ideally her tail should be pulled and "cob chopped" to the hocks however if you can't do this, don't attempt it as it is an art in itself. She cab also have a single plait, with or without a ribbon behind her ear to show off her jaw line. She should also be shown in a white halter if you can hold her, I would say the thicker the better to suit her head.

This pic is of my C mare last year at the Championships where she was unbeaten. I left her tail a bit longer as shes a little long in the back so it makes it look shorter

You'd be surprised. they usually behave 1st time out and then play up the 2nd time. See if you can burrow one and practise at home. You can get halters with chain that goes under their jaw like the one in the photo which gives you much more control as they respect it more. My C pulls like a train in a rope halter but totally hates the chain!! she just goes backwards and plants her feet as its 2 severe for her
 
You could always triangulate the chain so its not severe but has more of a running action :) and if worried about the chain on the lead you could put a little chammy sleeve where it runs behind the jaw, like you would on a curb chain, so it s cushioned some :)

Plaits are up to the individual, i dont but many do and both are acceptable. Dark Trainers or maybe some light weight walking boots are best for the tootsies as you tend to go quite fast with cobs, so good grip is essential.

I trim all the above bar the whiskers, i do believe mine require theyre whiskies when they are out and about in the field and that they are there for a reason, and i would tell any judge my reasons too :)

good idea bat man!!! didnt think of that.was not looking forward to running her main ring, Royal Welsh Thursday in a rope halter

I'd go against the grain there (although it doesnt really matter that much) - I was always told to wear trousers the opposite of your horses leg colour to try and make the legs stand out. So as your horse has quite a lot of white on his legs, Id wear dark brown trousers. The Welsh D I used to own was very dark bay (black) with only short white socks so I wore beige trousers.
 
There is the thought yes that light trews for dark legs n visa versa, but people like me just couldnt possibly wear light trousers, id be stinking before i d even get in the ring lol:rolleyes:

Same here, I'd wear dark trousers with your mare's white socks. Plus, let's face it, they are so much easier to hide grass/slobber/miscelaneous last minute stains on! ;)

Good luck OP,and judges like to see welshies move, so be prepared to run faster than you've ever run before. ;)
 
Id agree with you most of the time but because the top of her legs are black, they will blur together and not show the movement from the shoulder
