Off to another show tomorrow with the 2 year old Connemara part-bred. She is now looking somewhat fluffy with a thick winter coat. What can I do to make her coat look better? I will give her a bath today. Is there anything I can put on her coat to flatten it down/make her look less like a teddy bear?

A full neck stable rug? a damp, warm tea towel just before you go in helps too. I'm sure all the others in the class will have the same fluffy look, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks, Meleeka. I've just remember I have a lycra rug which will probably fit her so might try that. I'll bath her, hot oil her, let her dry then try the lycra overnight.

Well, here she is. Last in her first (youngstock) class (lots of Welsh cobs). The judge really didn't like her. But first in the plaited class - mostly due to lack of entries as everyone else at the show was a cob with no plaits 😆 It was her first time in an indoor and first time with mirrors. Busy first class, so learnt lots, although she was pretty silly outside for the first 30 mins. She loaded well both ways and travelled well there and back. All good experience. I decided to try lots of smaller plaits to make her neck look finer, but made a right mess of it and the plaits looked awful. Rug and hot clothing meant she didn't look too woolly.

She looks very smart, well done 👏. It sounds as if she had a lovely day out, which is the main thing. Hopefully you aren't put off and she can enjoy many more parties. I love her wide eyes in that photo.

Well, someone has to come last. I checked out the judge beforehand and he was a cob man through and through. It was actually a pretty strong class with some lovely youngsters, so fair enough. She's not really a show pony and we were just there for experience and we had a pretty good one.

You both look very smart and she is gorgeous. Do you know what her other part is?

I was thinking you meant you would be wearing winter woolies! 😅
Other part of her breeding? Her dam is my mare, Future Glory, one of the Future Sport horses and her breeding goes back to Rubenstein/Heraldik on one side and Primitive Rising on the other. I'm hoping she'll make a 15./15.2 small hunter type for me or, if too sharp, an eventer for a teenager (my eventing days are done!).

Very nice indeed and well turned out. You must be very pleased with her, I know I would be.
Yes, I am mostly pleased with her. She got lots of bone and strength, and a good length of rein. If she kept her feet on the ground instead of performing a levade whenever she felt a bit overwhelmed, I'd be more pleased!

Yes, the photo was taken in a rare stationary moment, but her eyes reveal her true thoughts on the whole situation! :)

That's good to know! Did yours do it when ridden or only inhand??
Both 😯 Although she was easy to back. Nightmare leading her out to start with, airborne when stressed/excited, but an absolute rock when just sat on. Turned out she had a problem with her poll, and a build up of tension fired her up until she exploded. These days she only bounces when she's excited and jumping. But only when she has an audience 😁
