Has anyone had any experience with injections to stop a pony itching?

My new pony is extremely irritated by insect bites, I remain unsure whether its sweet itch but am trying a multi pronged course of action (bug rug, fly mask, cream, fly spray etc)

I plan to get the vet out to see what he thinks but am wondering if injections would help? not sure what or how often they would have to be given though

Any help would be great thanks

dectomax not liscensed for horses but a good treatment for itching/mites usually 1 injection followed 14 days later with another inj. works for up to 6 months. no need to worm in the intevening period as it worms as well! can buy from good agric suppliers if you have a holding number but at your own risk as not liscensed for horses. if your vet injects and you have an adverse reaction you at least have some comeback.

Thats interesting thank you very much.

It would be really good if I can break the scratching cycle, poor pony doesnt look too fantastic :(

I have a holding number but would be scared to inject a pony at this stage but thats useful to know if he does need injections indefinitely as it could save money
