I'm such a soft touch - first I had a horse dumped on me, now an injured dog!
I have a "pikey" horsey acquaintance - the sort of guy you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of! I only know him and his wife wife via the horse world and bump into him every now and again. I saw him a week or so back and he mentioned he had a JRT (turns out to be a JRT x chihuahua) which went down a badger set and was attacked by a badger and now had a scar down its face so therefore he now wouldn't be able to sell it and was going to "take it somewhere and dump it". Soft touch me says "No, I'll find it a home!!"..........tonight he knocked on my front door, told me he couldn't stop because he'd left the lights on at his stables so had to rush back, and left me with a little bundle on the end of a piece of baling twine! I already had a home lined up for him, so I gathered him in my arms, (he was so sweet and cuddly) and rang the person who was going to take him in. "I'm now cuddling a tiny dog!" I laughed to Catherine when she answered the phone - then I looked on the other side of his face - the "scar" was in fact not a scar - his eye was just one bloody mess! I was speechless. All I could say was "I can't talk, I have to ring the vet".
I immediately rang my vet and took him up as an emergency (although he's been like this for a couple of weeks). I was so angry that when I got to the vet that I burst into tears as I walked in! I felt so stupid! The vet was horrified. The eye will have to be removed (no surprise there).
I'll foot the bill (again - no surprise there!!) and look after him for as long as necessary before I can rehome the little chap - he's only 18 months old and so SWEEEEET!
How can anyone let a dog suffer like this? I thought I could trust my "pikey" friend - how wrong! My daughter's working in a pub tonight and can't wait to see the little dog. She won't believe it when I tell her about him. I'm livid, but what can I do? This guy isn't the sort of person you'd want to get on the wrong side of! What worries me, is that his wife breeds dogs (Springers, JRTs plus others) and he told my daughter today that he's just bought two Golden Retrievers. Now I'm wondering what conditions they're kept it. I just feel so used............
