Mick Fitzgerald underwent an eight hour operation on Sunday to re-align three vertebrae and two discs in his neck, in respect of the injury he sustained in a fall in Saturday's Grand National. He is reported to have come through the operation well and also has movement in his limbs.
He is obviously being closely monitored by the medical team at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and investigations are also being made into the possibility of him being moved closer to home. Chloe, Mick's partner has spoken to him after the operation and he is in a comfortable condition

Wow, fingers crossed he will be ok, guess he will be retiring after all.

Ouch! I know someone who broke their neck, still alive and all. Apparently it's very painful - he's certainly lucky! He didn't really break his neck though; he just needed three vertebraes re-aligning - Is vertebrae meant to have an 's' on the end? - not sure

Fitzy has already broken his neck a few years ago and had a steel pin put in. These jockeys are so tough, but as they get older they don't bounce so well and eventually decide to call it a day, especially, if like Fitzy, they have a young family to support. He's been a great jockey and a great friend and I wish him a speedy recovery.
