Injured horse-field swap?? opinions please...

The horses welfare should come first. If the YO won't give you individual turnout, move yards.

Have you tried telling the YO that you will have to move yards?
 
Sounds like a very unsettled herd. When I first got my pair I was at a horrendous little yard with very little winter turnout, at one point there was 9 horses in a 4 acre "field" (on clay and never rested so in actual fact just a big square of mud) - the only "damage" sustained over the entire winter was when a yearling got turned out and he ate a few of the other horses tails!

I have since moved yards and my 2 are now in their own field.
 
Our horses are turned out in pairs and this seems to work well. New horses are assessed to see who they will best get on with, they are put on there own at first next door to potential field mates and then turned out if all looks good. We expect a bit of high jinks initially but if they don't get on they are moved. Touch wood we've not had any major incidents. The odd little bite but nothing worse. (20+ horses on site).

I would not be happy with the current big herd turnout (assuming that's what you have by the sounds of it) but I wouldn't rule out a life with no field companions ever again, maybe just 1 and possibly at another yard if it won't work where you
are.

Agree with sugarpuff on that, mine is only still in her own field as my only other horse def cannot be in with anything else (that includes pheasants, sheep, unwary worms, anything!), and also cos she had a bout of lami so has to be intensively managed muzzling/grass etc. Otherwise if we were still at a livery I would be more than happy for her to be in with one or two gentle mares who liked her snuggling up to them all the time!
 
it sounds like your YO needs to split the paddocks and make more small herds rather than one huge one. This should help solve the problem. If they won't listen I'd be looking elsewhere.
Hope your mare recovers quickly.
