Hi Everyone

My boy has been kicked on his right leg just above the knee inch long slightly deep, not alot of bleeding,. I have been trying to sort it myself by using amimalex poulsis 3 days wet one day dry, yellow yucky stuff i coming out it is,nt really hot anymore but just above the wound in the inside the swelling doest,nt seem to be going down.

Have been hosing it down for a good 10 minutes each day, puting the animalex on. I am going to call the vet in the morning,

i wanted to know roughly how much would the cost of calling a vet out?

This will the first time ive had to so a bit unsure what they charge

Hope that any of you can help me,

Thankyou

If I were you I would of called the vet sooner. If yellow stuff is coming out then it must be infected. The vet will most likely perscribe antibiotics. For call outs for leg wounds I've always paid over £100 per call out but it does vary considerably.

Depends on the practice, but the callout alone will probably be £30 - £50 and then the examination (£15-30) and then treatment (???) depending on the vet practice! Lets just say for a vet to look at my horse and tell me hes more sound than he was (trotted up and a quick2 second lunge) with the callout shared THREE ways cost me £45!!

Vets do rip you off, if you need stiches or anything else like antibiotics dont be too suprised if the bill is in the £100's (£400 vet bill for an infected leg once as felt the need to nerve block?!)! :)

Yellow stuff doesn't always mean infection - it can also mean bruising.
Last year my horse came in with a massive swollen leg and a small cut weeping exessive yellow stuff. This was sunday night so cold hosed and cleaned it and waiting till next morning to see if it was better. It wasn't so the next afternoon I had the vet out. Turns out a tree (yes, tree...) had fallen on him and created a small cut, and that the yellow stuff coming out was a result of the massive trauma and resulting bruising the leg endured. He had a course of anti-inflamatory, anti-biotic and bute, and also some cream to rub on the leg for the bruising (it was fairly expensive) From my memory the whole thing cost just over £200, so not bank breaking but certainly could have done without it!
Hope your boy is alright!

it's better to be safe and call the vet. I'd rather spend the money than leave my horse in pain or unsound.
mine cut himself today and while I thought it wasn't too bad, the vet has put in 6 staples and I now need to keep an eye to make sure ge doesn't get an infection as it's near his tendons.
always better safe than sorry
