Hi - am hoping you might be able to help allay some of my concerns as am now panicking about my horse... Has anybody had anything similar?
Basically horse came in from the field two days ago having managed to pull his underblanket out from underneath his TO rug, trashed it and had the webbing round the seams wrap around his hid leg. At the time there was no swelling, heat, cuts or evident lameness. I cold hosed for good measure but left him be as there was no evident damage (other than to the rug). Overnight, the leg started to swell - mainly from the hock to the fetlock and at the back/outside where the suspensory ligaments are located. At that point he was cold hosed, bandaged and went straight onto bute.
Fast forward to this morning and the swelling is exactly the same. It's not a big obvious lump in any one place, rather all the way down the outer part of the leg. It's not just ordinary 'stood in stable' type swelling nor cellulitis. I 'think' he is still sound on it, but obviously the bute may be masking any lameness, but he seems to be overtracking in the walk and tracking up in the trot on both reins on the lunge, and he's cantering ok too in the school.
The vet is making an appearence tomorrow to check him out as I'm worried (and it couldn't be worse timing for me personally for a variety of reasons). I'm just worrying in between
Any thoughts/help/similar experiences gratefully received. Tea and biscuits for those that reply!
