Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to me. About 4 weeks ago I got kicked in my elbow resulting in a very nasty open fracture and dislocation. A complete accident from my boy as he got spooked and unfortunately my determination to keep hold of him got the better of me this time. I’ve got no experience with broken bones as this is my first break & first operation.
Just wondering if anyone has any tips on how they got back into riding and how to build up my confidence again as I can already tell this has knocked me quite a bit and I’m so early in my recovery.
Thank you all in advance 😁

Slowly ! Learn to enjoy the small things before moving on and don’t be hard on yourself.
Learn breathing techniques and if you feel your position has been compromised, get biomechanics lessons. Learn in hand techniques so you can still do productive things if you aren’t up to riding (or before riding!)

In a funny way it can be a catalyst to improve every aspect of your riding and horsemanship so some good can come out of a confidence dent?

Thank you, I’m definitely not going to be rushing into it and I’m planning on getting lessons on other horses before bringing my boy back into work so how I feel doesn’t have an effect on him or me working with him

I had a similar injury many years ago. Dislocated elbow and fractured arm. Metal plates etc. Just wait until it is healed and no longer painful before you try to ride etc. Then pick a nice, safe horse and just see how it goes. There is no other answer than time and take it quietly.

Slowly and control the controllables. What happened was an accident and that is an uncontrollable. Hope you heal swiftly.
Mindset coaching is always useful.
