ink in bedding

Hi everyone, my cardboard bedding eventually came in stock but it has ink in it. For some reason I was expecting it to be ink free! Just wondered if anyone had ever had any problems with allergies to ink or what people’s thoughts were on it? I’m wondering if the farmer is going to be happy to take it away if it has ink in – does anyone know if this could be a problem? Also are some of the cardboard beddings free from ink? The only one I could get was future animal bedding but I have found another supplier who may be able to deliver – not sure what make he sells yet though. x

I've used the future animal bedding cardboard for over a year and not had any problems with the ink on it.

Some bales are plain and others are printed, it all depends on what they have in to shred, but it's always given me a giggle trying to figure out what the brands were, the most amusing was a very obvious Heinz beans coloured bale!

I know the chap who owns the company has horses of his own and has used this bedding for them for years before deciding to market it and I can't imagine him doing that if there was any risk. I would assume the ink would need to be non toxic for food packaging etc anyway.

If you are worried I would be tempted to call them direct and ask.

Thanks very much for your reply. My mum is really liking the cardboard bedding so far. She usually takes the wet out every day but decided to leave it today and see what happens as there was no ammonia smell and so would be more economical. Someone else recommended only taking the wet out 2 x weekly so it's just experimenting at the moment. I'm just not sure how the farmer will feel aswell about spreading it on his land with ink on. We've got some megazorb to try aswell but if the cardboard is still the favourite will give them a ring at future animal bedding first and then ring the farmer to see if he'd still be happy to take away! x
