Hi went to the yard this morning and on turning the pony out I thought he seemed a bit stiff, had a look at him and then thought I was imaging things, he seemed fine once he was out.

Daughter bought in after school and phoned me to say he was lame on his rear right leg, she found heat and swelling on his inner thigh quite high up, his reluctant to bear weight, we cold hosed and put on cooling gel and buteless before we left and he seems fine in himself. Will check him first thing to see if there's any improvement or if not or worse will call vet,.anyone had anything similar? He was fine yesterday so wondering if his hurt himself laying down last night.

My horse fractured his tibia - leg was very swollen and hot, and he was also very reluctant to walk. It healed fine although you can still feel the lump. Fingers crossed your pony gets better soon x

He could well have been kicked, it doesn't always leave a mark and as the thigh is all muscle, it will stiffen up without movement and become even more painful, hence his symptoms after a night in the stable.

As above my mare was kicked inside her inner thigh really high and like you I co
Dnt see anything, there was in fact a small cut in there and when I came back a couple of hours later it was swollen, vet out and she had to be on antibiotics for 5 days.

thank you for your replies, I am waiting for the vet to come out as the swelling has spread around to the outside of the thigh now. I wasn't thinking of a kick as it seemed an awkward place to get to but I suppose anything is possible!!

There's a horse at my yard who had a similar injury and also a swollen hock, the vet suggested that he probably got caught in the middle of two other horses having a fighter (he's the most laid back horse, never seen him fight) in the end they discovered he had actually sustained a hairline fracture to his hock! so he's still in about 3 months on!! bless him

just a little update, vet has been and he has lymphangitis possibly caused by a sting but that's not definite. He is now on medication and ive been told he needs to move about rather than stand in his stable. so hopefully he will be on the mend soon :)

Thank you I'm very relived, I had visions of months on box rest as he was literally on three legs, I've been back to the yard this evening and he already looks better.
