Osteosarcoma.

In complete shock from picking Ivy up from her x-rays today. Two/three weeks ago we started with physio because I thought she had a psoas tear again so walking a bit stiff and maybe a little 'off' but otherwise eating/drinking/toileting fine, fast forward to today the osteo vet telling us that it's not looking good. She's home and due for a CT but tbh he's not given much indication it could be anything else. Her white cell count is low. The suspect area is her spine between her hips. She is not even 6 years old.
 
We are just so shocked. We thought we'd be facing this in years to come. Not now. And not after we've not long moved to this lovely place where she enjoys every walk and lounging in the garden. I'm glad we have had that for her. Just two months of it doesn't seem fair. It's not long enough. We're not ready to say goodbye.
 
I am so sorry. We lost a 6 yr old Rottweiler to splenetic cancer, it's in their genes. It's horrible and you feel terribly cheated.
But please do try to find some consolation that you have given her the very best times, if the worst comes to the worst. You have learned so much about building a dog's confidence that you will be able to do the same for another lucky dog in the future.
I do hope that your vet's fears are proved wrong.
 
She's currently feeling a bit sorry for herself and shaking a bit. I think maybe now home and safe the adrenaline is wearing off from her day at the vets. She is also probably a bit confused why she has had raw egg, a slice of ham, and a pigs ear in one evening.

She was sort of interested in going for a walk but didn't get up. I imagine not feeling right after the sedation and perhaps sore from being moved around for the x-rays. I'm not sure if she had GA in the end. They said she was still reacting to pain while sedated but I also think she would always have reacted dramatically to anyone making her go on her back and moving her legs around.

Thank you, this has brought OH and I some comfort. She has been an excellent teacher and rewarded us a thousand times over for all our efforts.

CT scan to be booked. I think a lot of the information stopped going in at some point while he was explaining the x-rays. Tbh the way he explained it made it seem like it would confirm OS rather than rule anything else out.

I want him to be wrong and it turn out to be that she just needed a massive poo (because of where on the spine it is) or something ridiculous. He just did not make any suggestion as to anything else it could be.

ETA it never crossed my mind to ask about biopsy. I don't know why that hasn't been suggested.
