Just to let you know that they will be dissecting an elite racehorse - Tuesday 20th September Channel 4 at 8pm.

Sure to be facinating.

The paper says

Last in the documentry series. The team dissects an elite racehorse, revealing how the creatures exist on a knife edge between glory and failure, and exposing the spring system that allows the animal to propel itself to 45mph.

Very, very interesting. Just wish they had covered horse's head over, as some one close to the horse could have been very upset. Has got me seriously worried at the end of the program about speed and stamina genes, what will they be breeding next.:eek::eek:

I don't think there was much chance of that. The programme makers will have obtained permission from the owner to film and broadcast the dissection - so they would know about it and could choose whether to avoid watching it or not. They'd probably tell other people involved with the horse as well.

Yes, the same thought crossed my mind too!

Fab programme :D really enjoyed watching it and very interesting (especially with my own ex racer at home) awful watching that horse that broke its foot suddenly though :(

Really interesting and very well done programme - I'm going to watch it again tonight and will be forcing my students to watch it over the coming weeks (smelling salts at the ready ;))

" Speed and Stamina" Surely that has always been the raison d'etre of Thoroughbred breeding ?

Someone close to the horse would have been better switching it off, can't see how covering the horse's head would help when they were going to take out the tongue and expose the larynx.

Great programme if one isn't too squeamish, seeing it like that is so different to seeing it on a page.

Great program, very informative . I knew horses lungs and hearts were much bigger than cows (and they are big enough) but didnt realise how much bigger!!

I too felt a bit sad looking at the horses face, I couldnt help imagining one of my girls there :(
