I suspect that she picked up the job during WW1. There must have been a huge shortage of farriers after the men were called up, and the best farriers would have worked for the cavalry.

Check out the hooping plate behind them for fitting iron tyres.

What's struck me about that photo is that in nearly 100 years, the kit/equipment really hasn't changed!

I only tidy my horse's feet, but can do just one before I need a rest!
